Sermons About Disciples
Soul Prosperity
We need to live in God’s righteousness, peace and joy on the inside all the time, not just cry out to God for it when we are in a crisis. Our soul is prospering when we are walking in step with Holy Spirit.

The Terrifying Love of Jesus
For the second time in the Gospel of Mark, the disciples find themselves in a boat on the sea of Galilee, struggling against the wind and waves, and feeling utterly alone. Though Jesus sees them struggling in the evening, he waits until almost morning to do anything about it, finally coming out to them walking on the sea. What do we make of this story? Besides being one of the clearest revelations of the true identity of Jesus, it is also the clearest revelation of just how little the disciples understand that identity.

The Olivet Discourse, Part 1 (Mark 13:1-23)
In this portion of the discourse on the Mount of Olives, Jesus prophetically describes to his disciples the destruction of the temple, and the events that will precede it. While these events are long past, there is clear application for us today. We must be on guard, not to be led astray by false teaching and not to fear persecution or the happenings in the world around us. Instead, we are to trust in God's sovereignty and grace, and live our lives by the power of the Holy Spirit.

John 1:35-51 - This is Jesus: The Message and Means of the Christian Witness (Part 2)
My message this morning is not what I intended it to be. I sat down to write out a sermon on John 1:43-51, will special attention on the significance of Jesus’ encounter with Nathaniel. However, when I finished writing, it turned out to be less of an exposition of this passage and more of an extended application of some implications of this entire section; implications which I’ve been meditating on the past few weeks of studying this section of John.

John 1:35-42: This Is Jesus - The Message and Means of the Christian Witness
“Evangelism.†“Witnessing.†“Soul-winning.†The idea strikes fear into the hearts of many Christians. For many it conjures up images of putting on the suit and tie on Thursday evenings to go knocking on the doors of strangers. For others, it brings to mind insulting a waitress by shorting her on a tip and leaving a cheesy tract in it place. Others, think of televangelists, stadium crusades, and alter calls. Some spend their Christian life hoping that they will never have to tell anyone about Jesus—and many don’t. Some spend their lives getting people to respond and make decisions—yet never actually sharing the Gospel.

The Mount of Transfiguration (Mark 9:2-13)
In the transfiguration we see a momentary glimpse of Jesus's divinity and true greatness. This vision strengthened the disciples -- and strengthens us -- for a lifetime of whatever hardship lies ahead of us. Jesus is our example in facing hardship, but more importantly the fact that he faced it for us gives us enduring hope and power.
