Sermons About Disciples
Being Disciples
Like DNA in living cells, core values are key in determining what the church will become and do. At The Promise, we strive to have every person, group, and ministry embody the following five biblical values: Loving God, Loving Others, Making Disciples, Serving the Hurting, and Growing the Kingdom. This sermon series will define what these values are and how we can put them into practice personally and as a community.

Some Dirty Fishermen
Jesus knew ministry was a tough road. Jesus also knew that if He was going to have the impact that He intended to have that He would have to raise up some leaders to carry on His legacy after His death. Who would He call? Why? Why would Jesus pick some dirty, stinky fisherman to be His first disciples? Come walk the shores of Galilee with us as we discover 4 fisherman's decision to answer His call.

Mark 3:7-21
Mark 3 details why there was such hope and anticipation built around the person of Christ in His early ministry, not unlike the expectation that currently has been placed on President Obama. James Sutton explains the significance of Christ strategically choosing 12 disciples, and the personalities that accompanied them. Mark 3 illustrates that God always has permanent solutions in mind when we may only desire immediate fixes. Are your desires too small for Jesus' objective sometimes?

Great Commission
We admit it. We have an agenda: we want you to join the church. All believers in Jesus in every time and place are members of the universal church, but committing to a local church is a vital part of the spiritual life for every Christ-follower. In our teaching series, CHURCH 101, we are taking several weeks to describe the foundational commitments of church membership. Our members are those who have accepted the mission of helping others become passionate followers of Jesus through the ministry and community of this church. Over the next few weeks, we will discuss what that means as we explore practically how we can live for Jesus as a part of His church.

Hidden Religion
Everyone lives within a particular culture. And, every culture has a commonly held set of beliefs. But, we often fail to realize we hold these beliefs--our religion--until we are confronted with a view that opposes them. This week we discover that the Good News of Christianity helps us to not only uncover our hidden religion(s) and beliefs about God, but confronts them, and provides a solution that leads us to Jesus.
