Discouragement and its Remedies
Paul offers three insights to help alleviate discouragements.
Take on Christ's Attitude (6:00 pm)
Don't be enticed by or discouraged by the world around you! Peter challenges us to take on an attitude as that of Christ and not lost heart or become discouraged.
Seasons of Crisis
All people living in a fallen world experience seasons of crisis sooner or later. In these seasons, it can be easy to become disheartened to the point where others and even we ourselves may start asking, "Where is God?" Not only that, these seasons of crisis reveal our misplaced trust in idols. And so, in this context where circumstances seem to be spiraling out of control and it feels like God is nowhere to be found, the central theme of Psalm 115 hits home. Where is God? He is in heaven and He does whatever He pleases. Whereas our idols visible, but pitifully inadequate, the Lord is invisible, yet powerfully in control. In light of His sovereignty, trust in the Lord, knowing that He will help, protect, and bless His people. In the meantime, praise Him right here right now together with His people, even in the middle of a season of crisis, with full assurance that He will ultimately come through as He has promised.
From Bitterness to Sweetness
Exodus 15:22-27 King James Version (KJV) 22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. 23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? 25 And he cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, 26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee. 27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.
Dashed by Discouragement
Too often our feelings lead us astray, the reality is that our feelings are fickle and can not be trusted. However every single person struggles with being discouraged. How do we handle that? Is there a way to overcome discouragement? This message address this and helps you to not feel alone. We all become discouraged but there is a way to find hope in the midst of discouragement.
Facing Opposition
When we "put things right" we can expect to face opposition. This is especially true when putting things right we begin to put worship at the heart of our community. This is the lesson we can learn from the Jews returning from exile and rebuilding the temeple.
There was a man...
We begin to look at this man named Job - who is he, what does he do, where is he from. We want to know this man of whom God ordained to have a whole book written. Why was he is the position he was - and how does he respond when times are good and bad? Most of all, we begin to look at God, and His part in this great and tragic story.
