A Church Called Together
The church is to be a unique place in a fallen and broken world. It is to be a place of harmony, purpose, and unity. But too often, the church has been divided, filled with people seeking their personal agendas, or filled with people who are living their own lives without thought of the message that they are sending to other people through their lives. Far too few understand the unique nature of the church that God has called together in this world. As a church, we must strive to be a place of unified diversity—people from all different walks of life who are unified around the lordship of Jesus Christ. As we pursue this, we will be a dwelling place of God in this world, and place from which God will call more people to himself for salvation in Jesus Christ.

Countercultural Focus
Our culture trains us to avoid thinking about "the End." God calls us to confront it and live every moment of every day in light of it. How does God expect our focus on the end to change our day to day living? Listen in as we look to 1Peter to find out.

Countercultural Community
As the tale of two cities continues we are introduced to the tension that surrounds the concept of community. While both cities value community they have a very different idea of what it is. The city of man perceives community in one way. The city of God perceives it another. What is true community? And how are Christians supposed to live in community within both cities? Listen in as we turn to 1Peter 2:1-10.

Different By Design

Men and women, created in the image of God, are equal in value, importance, significance and dignity. But in a reflection of the glorious unity and diversity of the Trinity, men and women are also created and called by God to serve in different but complementary roles. In the context of the church and family, men are called by God to lead and provide, and women are called by God to help. This calling predates mankind's fall into sin.

To say all this is barely to scratch the surface; applying this requires careful attention to God's commands and a watchfulness that we do not fall into the various temptations that beset us as men and women. But there is great joy to be found in walking out God's calling for us.

Scriptures referenced include Genesis 1-3; 1 Corinthians 11:3,7-11; 1 Corinthians 15:22,28; Romans 5:15; 1 Timothy 2:13,15; Colossians 3:18; Titus 2:4-5; Ephesians 5:22-25; 1 Peter 3:1-6; 1 Timothy 5:9,14; Proverbs 31:28.

See also the link to this sermon's notes.

Volunteer Ministry - Why most people don't get involved in church
The reason most people don't get involved in church is because they either they think they can't or they won't. When churches violate the principle of Diversity over Conformity, people think they can't measure up and therefore don't get involved. When churches violate the principle of Humility over Hierarchy, people that have something to give to the church are turned of by the process. Jesus gives us clear teaching on this subject in Matthew 20. Paul gives churches clear teaching on this in I Corinthians 12.
