Most of us would scoff at the idea that we were false teachers. Maybe we're not teachers at all. Yet, Peter focuses more on the lives of the false teachers than on their doctrine. We must take a look in the mirror. Are we LIVING like a false teacher? Are we influencing others away from Christ?

Mature Christians should be able to acknowledge that they do not know Christ perfectly yet, either in their understanding of doctrine or in living out consistent holy lives. Yet we are called to pursue and strive to know Christ perfectly day-by-day, with the understanding that we will fully know Him when we are taken to be with Him in glory.

When the Bible says hard things, things that offend you, how do you respond? Jesus said things in John 6 that turned most of His disciples away. Difficult doctrines to follow often produce great fruit because we are forced to press into Christ through the Holy Spirit to believe. The Spirit gives life. The flesh is of avail. Jesus gives words of spirit and life.
