Happy Nesting (Psalm 84)
We must dwell in God’s presence in the temple and then let God’s presence dwell in us as the temple. This song, about the awesome experience of entering into the holy place where God was present in both power and might, was sung while traveling to the temple in Jerusalem. The temple was a place for all to come home to. The Psalmist says, “Even the sparrow and the swallow build a nest and can find a home there.” Walter Brueggemann takes "the nesting of birds as a metaphor for the 'nesting' of worshipers who sing the happy songs of praise. The object of such happy nesting is the life of the worshiper found in 'my King and my God....'" the ultimate power of the universe and the center of our lives. An experience in the temple was both overwhelming powerful and intensely personal. The image of "nest" suggests a place of safety, nurture, and home "at home with God." Happy nesting, which is the longing for the surpassing blessing of the presence of God, is for all who trust in the Lord. When you see sparrows in a nest, they are just resting there – trusting and not worried about if a twig is going to fall out … the same applies to us.

Incarnation
After making sure we all know we are talking about one Holy, Almighty, Triune God, who made everything that is, and enlightens all that is dark, and brings life to all that is dead, John wants us to know that THIS God became just like us and took up residence so close to us that we cannot escape Him.

God's Abiding Presence (Exodus 40:34-38)
This passage is the pinnacle of the book of Exodus -- the holy LORD of all creation comes to dwell with his people. God's presence demonstrated his power, guided Israel, and extended mercy. This is true for us today, as well; through the Holy Spirit and by the cross, God's presence empowers us, guides us, and extends daily mercy.
