Sermons About Eating
Food & Spirituality
Why does Jesus associate and eat with sinners? Can you imagine President Obama having a barbeque with Al Qaeda leadership? What a scandal. Jesus’ practice of sharing meals with sinners brought a lot of criticism from the religious leaders of the day. Pastor Hugo takes us to Luke 15 to show us why Jesus made a habit of eating with reprobates like you and me. Stay tuned in after the sermon to hear, Lord I Want to be a Christian/Apart from You recorded live at the Soiled Dove by Dave LeMieux & House of Soul, which was just released on their latest CD, Jazz Shaped.

Eating Spiritually: Hospitality and the Gospel-Transformed Life: Hebrews 13:1-3
God, in His grace, has shown great Hospitality to us in drawing us near by the blood of Christ. And now we, as His people, should be people of Hospitality. If our Eating and Hospitality is not about Christ, then it is sin. Our Eating and Hospitality should be about Thankfulness, Faith, Love, and it should be a Lifestyle.

Revolutionary Feast
Eating is an activity all of us do. It is a basic human practice. Yet when Jesus came, He transformed the ordinary meal into an encounter with Him. He sets Himself in the midst of these meals and invites all to come and taste the grace of God. Jesus demonstrates to the world His mission through welcoming sinners at the table with Him.

Eating with Jesus Part 4
In this next meal scene, Jesus once again dines in the home of a Pharisee. And, once again, Jesus does not prove to be a very predictable dinner guest. The Pharisee looks on with contempt as Jesus fails to wash his hands before eating. This launches Jesus into a tirade about the nature of religion and hypocrisy. The view that we see if Jesus in this story is very different from the view that most people today have of Jesus.

Eating with Jesus Part 3
Why does the subject of hospitality, living our lives as welcoming people with open homes, often cause such anxiousness amongst Christians? When the focus of our hospitality shifts from Jesus to ourselves and our guests, we wind up engulfed by our desire to impress and be approved. This is clearly illustrated in this meal narrative in which Jesus eats in the home of Mary and Martha.
