Sermons About Elders
Qualified Biblical Leadership
Jesus loves his bride, the church, and knows the best way to serve and protect her--through qualified biblical leadership. In this sermon 1 Timothy 3 is the core passage and we see that leadership within Christ's church is organized into two groups--male elders, male and female deacons, all of whom exemplify servant leadership.

An Exhortation to Elders
In this passage, Peter gave church leaders and church members five exhortations about Elders. Peter's exhortations were born out and driven by his personal relationship and experience with Jesus Christ Himself, and therefore, were intended to enable the flock of God in the church of Corinth to interact according to the will of God. When the Elders and the flock both obey these exhortations, peace and unity will prevail, and God will look down at such a church and be pleased. How appropriate this instruction is given the fact that the flock of God will be shepherded forever by the Chief Shepherd - Jesus Christ!

The Church is the Bride of Jesus
Jesus said in Matthew 16, "I will build my church." He is faithful! We have come to the place in the life of this church plant to begin talking about what it means to be a member of the church. This sermon is the first in the Church Series, in which we will talk about the key indicators of a true Church. Scripture says that the Church is the bride of Jesus and in this sermon we look at a key passage in our understanding of that metaphor. In Ephesians 5 Paul, through inspiration of the Holy Spirit, refers talk of husband and wife, Jesus and the church, and Adam and Eve. This brilliant passage sheds much needed light on the nature of the church and how Jesus cares for his beloved.

Appointing Elders
For worldly pursuits, there are many standards applied by which to test candidates for stewardship in those positions. Given this, how much higher should the standards be when considering those who are being considered to keep watch over the souls of those in Christ's church? Titus 1 outlines the biblical standards that should be employed when considering appointment of Elders in the church. The four criteria for selection of Elders are 1) Responsibility, 2) Credibility, 3) Integrity, and 4) Ability. Our church will rise or fall based on the men we choose to lead us!
