The Election
Our timing of getting to Chapter 8 in I Samuel is pretty God orchestrated, to say the least. What you have is the election of a king? Pretty similar stuff going on in our country right now—our whole country, well, even the whole world, has been charged by this recent election. So, let’s first look at the situation that was going on surrounding the Israelites election of a king, and then we’ll draw out some lessons for us from their election.

Vote Like A Christian... So Why Don't I See Jesus on the Ballot?
How do you decide how to vote? Voting with a Christian mind, not a “Christian voting guide” To vote with a Christian mind, I must: 1) know that my primary citizenship is to God (v. 9) 2) know that I am a resident alien (v. 11; Phil. 3:20-21) 3) know that I carry personal responsibility for my actions (v. 11-12) 4) know that I must submit to the governing authority, even if I didn’t vote for it (v. 13-14) 5) know that I have freedom within the boundaries of morality (v. 16) 6) know that God is not my slave, I am his (v. 16) 7) know that I owe respect to everyone (v. 17)
