Who Is This King of Glory?
Who Do you believe Jesus is? We know what many people around us think. Many say Jesus was a good teacher, even a prophet, but have a hard time crowning him lord. The same question that Jesus asked the disciples I believe he is asking us today. Who do you believe Jesus is?

Elijah - Doing All You Can With All You Are
1 Kings 16 - 2 Kings 2 Elijah, one of the greatest men of the Old Testament era, was privileged to accomplish great and miraculous things for God. Yet, his times of discouragement remind us that James was right to describe him as having "a nature like ours" (5:17). The life of Elijah reminds us that God wants to do extraordinary things through ordinary people, but only as they determine to do all they can with all they are!

The Whisper of the Lord God Almighty
Though Elijah has seen God powerfully work in his life, he is still driven into desperate hiding. He has forgottnen God's sovereignty even though his own prayers confess that he is the "Lord God Almighty".

The prayer of despair after failed expectations
Ken Stebbins preaches the 5th sermon in our Elijah: Man of Prayer series. "Elijah was a man with a nature like ours": when Elijah's expectations were not all fulfilled, he panicked and fled for his life. At this time his prayers show a feeling of utter failure. But God had not forsaken him. We would do well to also trust and obey our Almighty Lord.

Praying for fire before praying for rain
Ken Stebbins presents the 4th sermon in our Elijah: Man of Prayer series. Elijah lived in a nation which followed mixed religions, leading to false prayer to false gods. Elijah began with true, "effective" prayer accompanied by repentance which "avails much": upon seeing God's power in the fire on Mt Carmel, the people turned back to Him and put away their idolatry.

I Have Had Enough
In the past Elijah was strong because he kept his eyes on God and trusted in God. But in his situation in chapter 19 it seems as if he is not looking at God. He sees the problems, the circumstances, the threats and dangers. It is as if God gets very small in his sight and the people and problems get very big and it overwhelms him. What this teaches us is that no matter how much you know or how well you've handled problems in the past you sometimes have to fight to keep your eyes on God in the present.

Continuing in prayer in the face of continual disappointment
Ken Stebbins preaches the 3rd sermon in our Elijah: Man of Prayer series. Elijah faced continual disappointments in the mission God gave him, reminding him to trust fully in the Lord. The "fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much," as it did with the widow of Zarephath. Just as his prayers were persistent and specific, so ours should be.

Praying the hard option
Ken Stebbins, Teaching Elder of the Presbyterian Reformed Church in Everton Park, presents the 2nd sermon in our Elijah: Man of Prayer series. In the first of four Family Camp messages, we learn that Elijah prayed in tough times and chose tough options: "he prayed earnestly that it would not rain." Elijah was not afraid to confront society with its rebellion against God.

Prayer - Knocking on Heaven's Door
Prayer is powerful when in your prayers you truly pray like a servant of God. James says when you look at Elijah you are seeing an example of how you should pray. Look at what James says again. James 5:16-18 ... The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.

The Lord - He Is God
A lot of things in life require a commitment. You have to come to the point where you see the truth and live in light of it. What makes the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 18 so relevant for us today is the fact that the underlying issues for people then are the same for us today. God through Elijah is addressing the people's double-mindedness which kept them from committing to God. Today we are in danger of the same thing.
