Letter to the Church at Philedelphia
Economic pressures can affect churches as they also affect communities. The city of Philedelphia was suffering from an economic downturn that may well have led to loss of church leaders as people moved away to find better livings. The church so weakened was less able to resist the pressures imposed by Roman demands for Caesar worship. On top of this, the Christian community was under assault from some of the Jewish community leaders who had vested interests in keeping on the good side of the authorities. However, despite the lack of strength, Jesus does not rebuke the church. Unlike the five other churches in this region, they have remained obedient and are blessed with words of encouragement.

We are engaged in life’s warfare now (“guarded by the power of God”) but we will soon be victorious. Our faith is being tested now, but soon it will prove itself purer and more precious than gold.

However, much of Jesus' teaching is, at it's core, very basic, very simple, very uncomplicated. Jesus finishes the Sermon on the Mount with some very simple things to keep in mind.
