Fed and Filled (Jesus meets the crowds)
Is the lesson of the feeding of the 5000 that Jesus can really do a lot with a little? Or is it a message to what kind of followers he would have? Jesus will show us over what kind of kingdom he will preside! Over followers who, when tested, will lift up their eyes and see God at work. Over followers who will even suggest embarrassing options if they know it can serve others. Over followers convinced that Jesus will have enough for them even after serving crowds. Over followers convinced that if they don’t have Jesus, they won’t survive!

When Right is Wrong - Part 2
It seems like everywhere we look we encounter people who are only looking out for themselves. We see selfish people on the highway, at the grocery store and even in the bathroom mirror. Often our attitudes are driven by the deep conviction that we are better than others. In this section of his letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul says that there is a way to live that puts other people first and sees them as equals. This way of life is what God is all about. He takes it very seriously when we treat someone with prejudice or with pride. God’s desire is that we would emulate Jesus and live with humility, seeking equality and justice for others.

The Covenant Meal Inaugurated (Mark 14:1-31)
The nation of Israel failed to see that the greatest problem they had was not external, such as Rome, but was internal -- their own sin. As a result, they failed to see what sort of a Savior and Messiah they needed. In this passage, we see a sharp contrast between Mary's loving and worshipful anointing of Jesus against the hatred and betrayal of Jesus's many enemies. But at the same time, we are reminded that all -- both true and false disciples -- have need of a savior. We see God's provision for us in Jesus's death, and are regularly reminded of it in our celebration of the Lord's supper.

The Church as Eucharist
A living Eucharist has to be worked out. It cannot be commodified. It cannot be lived off someone else for very long. The secret is that we have to let the body be put back together and the blood poured back in.
