Sermons About Expectations
Jesus And The Ultimate Question
Who is Jesus really? Back in the earliest portions of the Bible God had promised whoever was willing to listen that one day He would visit this world to bring redemption. He foretold, through prophets, throughout the centuries, in the Hebrew Scriptures that he would send a Redeemer or Savior. Once he arrived even John the Baptist had doubts about whether or not Jesus was the one sent by God. He asked, "Are you the one or do we keep looking?". Have you ever had questions, if not doubts, surface because Jesus isn't really what you expected or he did not solve some problem like you wanted him to? The truth is, Jesus doesn't always meet our expectations or fix our problems like we think he should. But the ultimate question is actually, "Are you the one?", and the answer to that question is "Yes".

What Makes a Great Church
When asked to explain the secret of his remarkable ministry, the British preacher, Charles Spurgeon replied, “My people pray for me.†Warren Wiersbe states that prayer is not an escape from responsibility; it is our response to God’s ability. Our text presents an historical account of the persecution that resulted from the ministry of the early church. The Council (Sanhedrin) opposed the preaching of the Gospel because it had “great†impact upon the people and that impact “greatly disturbed†them (vv. 2, 16). The Apostles defended the name of Jesus Christ with a “living example†of its power to save (v. 10). The Council in Jerusalem brought pressure to bear in an effort to silence the witnesses. In response to this persecution the church (v. 23) united once again in prayer and the Lord Jesus Christ responded to their prayer and praise with the “great†things that God gives to those who ask. What makes a great church? A great church is made up of believers that are united in heart and soul (v. 32), united in worship and prayer, focused in presenting the Truth, and living witnesses of the great things that result in the Christ-centered life.

Recipe #2 Realistic Expectations
Recipe #2: Realistic Expectations 1. I create security when I stop working on my mate and I start working on myself. â€For we are each responsible for our own conduct." Galatians 6:5 (NLT) “And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own?†Matthew 7:3 (NLT) 2. I create security when I start working on MY heart. My heart determines my actions. “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.†Proverbs 4:23 (NIV) “For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.†Matthew 12:34 “As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man.†Proverbs 27:19 “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.†Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV) "Don't you understand?" Jesus asked him. "Anything you eat passes through the stomach and then goes out of the body. But evil words come from an evil heart and defile the person who says them. For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all other sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. These are what defile you. Eating with unwashed hands could never defile you and make you unacceptable to God!" Matthew 15:19, 20 (NLT) My heart needs to be examined. Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Psalm 139:23 (NIV) My heart can change. For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. Romans 10:9, 10 (NLT) Jesus: “I'm here inviting outsiders, not insiders--an invitation to a changed life, changed inside and out.†Luke 5:32 (MSG)

The prayer of despair after failed expectations
Ken Stebbins preaches the 5th sermon in our Elijah: Man of Prayer series. "Elijah was a man with a nature like ours": when Elijah's expectations were not all fulfilled, he panicked and fled for his life. At this time his prayers show a feeling of utter failure.
