SHAPE Series-Week 6-Employing Your Experiences
This Sunday we will conclude our six part series (based on the teaching from Saddle Back Church) “Shaped to Make a Difference.” We’ve looked at five different ways that God wired you uniquely to fulfill your purpose in life. We used the acrostic SHAPE.
Excuse me, this is raw!
So, when was the last time you read the book of "Lamentations"? Ha! I can't remember either! Known as one the saddest books in the Bible, the richness of Lamentations is often passed over for more cheerful/happy passages. However, the experience of life has taught us all that sooner or later we all will (and must) lose at something. This is often the only way that the Life-God-Grace Mystery can get us to change. This message explores this candid reality of life while introducing the new theme for the New Year: 2012 "New Experiences".
Salvation is Not Found in Religious experience but in the Revelation of Jesus
IN the first chapter of Hebrews Jesus is revealed to be greater than angels. We wonder what the big deal is about that? Angels stand for religious experiences. We relate the temptation today to think of faith in Jesus as real only in terms of certain experiences or feelings. But salvation doesn't come that way, but by Jesus, the complete revelaiton of God.
Hope in the Midst of Despair
As Christians, we often struggle with wanting to see growth in our lives, our families, our churches, and our communities. Yet, many of us only see our sin and are tempted to despair because of our experiences. Paul reminds us that our hope as Christians is in the God who has changed us and redeemed us through His Son, Jesus Christ. Because of who Jesus is and what He has done for His people, we can hope in the midst of despair.
