Sermons About Failure
A Contrite Heart
In 2 Samuel 11 and 12, King David stumbles into an immense moral failure when he commits adultery with Bathsheba and murders her husband Uriah to cover it up. In Psalm 51 we learn how David can still be called a "man after God's own heart" and how we can share in the forgiveness that David receives - by embracing Jesus as the truer and better King.

Discouragement
When things are going well, it is easy to maintain a positive attitude and a can do spirit. However, when reversals come our positive outlook may wither and be replaced with discouragement. The unfortunate thing is that it is very hard to help ourselves once we get caught in its grasp because we lose perspective. Where is hope to be found? 1Kings 18; 1Kings 19; Heb 10:23-25

How Does Jesus Respond to Failures?: A Look at the Life of Peter Many of us are afraid of what others would think about us if they really knew us—all of our secrets, hidden thoughts, and actions. This fear causes us to set up walls and keep certain parts of our lives private. But what about God? What does the God who sees everything about us think? How does the God who sees everything respond to our failures? Until we know how God responds to failures, we will never truly be able to trust him with our hearts. To answer this question I want to look at one of the biggest failures in the Bible and see how Jesus responds to him. His name is Peter and we will find that we are more like him than we might think.

What To Do With Our Joy
As we finish our series in the Psalms on the emotional life of God's people, we look at joy as our last subject. What keeps us from joy? What encourages our Joy? What is the foundation for our joy? It’s an important subject since all other messages ultimately serve to bring us through them to the soul-satisfying experience of finding our greatest delight and joy in the One for whom our souls long.

Is Your Soul Healthy
Just as it is often possible to tell the difference between a sick person and a healthy person, so it is possible to discern the health of the soul. Unfortunately, much of what we think we know about soul health is wrong. Let's look at the scripture together and discern what healthy souls look like and how we can evaluate our own. Key verses: Lk 10:25ff; Lk 15:11ff; Lk 18:10ff; Mt 5:1-12ber 6, 2009 Sermon

Put Down Your Baggage
who we are and how we respond to life today. We often compensate for this by performance or pretense, but the reality is that there is no need to either perform or pretend. What is needed is to accept ourselves as God accepts us and to turn for him for guidance and purpose. He made us who we are and he did it for a reason. Key Verses: Lk 18:10; Heb 9:27; Ps 139:13ff; Ro 5:6-8; Ro 12:3ff; Isa 45:9-10; John 5:17-19; Php 3:4-21

"Confusing...Deceitful...Reality"
The world in which we live is a cruel place. From a young age we constantly get a message of "You're Not Good Enough!" drilled into our heads. The world is also full of deceit; it dangles "hope," in the form of the proverbial carrot in front of a donkey, because if we work real hard we just might be "good enough." Ironically, when we encounter God's Word it says, "you're not good enough" as well. However, God is gracious.
