Sermons About Faith
God's Word Creates
Most of the poetry written three thousand years ago is never given a second thought in our day, but the Psalms remain relevant because they were inspired by God and are therefore able to help us understand who God is and how to walk with Him, and the vivid language and rhythmic writing help convey the same timeless truths to us that they brought to their original audience. Psalm 1 is a poetic reminder that God’s Word is a creative force, not a restrictive force, and is given to us to nourish our spiritual growth as we grow closer to God.

Understanding Prayer
When it comes to faith, there's no more critical ingredient than prayer. When our prayers are answered, we are elated and our faith grows. When they don’t seem to be answered, especially after many prayers, our faith can waiver to the point of losing faith all together. What should we expect from prayer? How does God answer prayer?

Defining True Worship
Worship is often defined as a type of music sung as a part of church services but this is only a small part of what worship really is. Worship is giving praise, honor, and devotion to something or someone. This makes us all worshipers because we can’t help but give ourselves up and worship something; the only question is what will be the object of our worship. The apostle Paul reminds us in his letter to the Romans of all of the mercy and love that God has extended to us through His Son Jesus Christ, and because of this it is fitting for us respond to His mercy in worship, not merely with our singing once a week, but with our whole lives throughout the week as do everything with the goal that God’s greatness would be displayed by the way that we treat people and the decisions that we make.

Our Response to Life
Everyone has things in their lives that keep them from being all they could be. Sometimes we need more than our own skill and experience to overcome those things. We need power. The kind of power that comes from God. Jesus said this kind of power only comes through prayer. Not the reactive, popcorn prayers that we're all good at, but the proactive prayers of people who are in a vibrant relationship with God.

Hebrews 1:4-2:4 "Jesus is Greater than the Angels...What, Why are we Talking About the Angels???"
Have you ever wondered WHY the author of Hebrews speaks about the angels in a comparison to Jesus? Notice that he does not chop them down in any sense, but rather, he upholds all that is good about them and then shows that they are no close to Christ in a comparison (so much for the argument about this letter being written to a group of Essenes). He does so to...well, listen to find out.

Living In Suffering
When you become a Christian, there is some ‘fine print’ that is easy to miss. It goes something like this: “God will teach you how to love each other and trust in him through suffering. This serves as proof of his judgment that he makes you worthy to be in his kingdom.” In 1 Thes. 1:1-5, Paul teaches that you are to persevere in loving one another and learn to trust in God through “persecutions and afflictions”. It is by design that you grow through the difficult experiences of your life. This is how God judges you worthy to be part of is kingdom.

Gods Greatest Work
In church we hear stories of great miracles and are often even taught that we should expect them. Then, we are disillusioned when they fail to appear. Why the great disconnect between what we expect and what really happens? Could it be that we have not dared to acknowledge the truth? That is, that God more often works through suffering than through triumph. Key Verses: Daniel 3, Mark 14:32-42, Mark 15:22-39, 2Cor 12:7-10, 2Cor 4:7-12, 1Peter 4:12-19

Games People Play
Sometimes, people's lives aren't what they seem. The Bible word for it is hypocrisy. Today Jesus makes the same challenge to us because we struggle with the same temptations to play religious games. Today, we'll take a look at three problem areas--three hypocritical games we often play that stand in our way of becoming what God wants us to be, and we'll look at how to squash out some areas of hypocrisy in our lives.

Exclusivity of the Gospel
Many religious beliefs are open to interpretation however, Christianity holds firm to an absolute system rooted in the acceptance of The savior Jesus Christ. How can we operate/live in a society of extreme political correctness where every belief should be treated as valid & accepted. Trusting Jesus and Elders During Difficult Times
People often aspire to positions of leadership because it can bring them fame, power, and comfort, and those who seek power for such reasons will often use the people they lead to achieve these goals. The Apostle Peter speaks to the leaders of the churches and reminds them that they are not to act like this but instead they should lovingly care for the people entrusted to their care, leading by example and not by being domineering, shepherding their flock in the example of their Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. The rest of the people in the church should humbly accept the authority of their pastors, knowing that God has appointed their leaders to help guide them and care for them.

Stewards of the Story in Our Silence
2 Timothy 1:3-12 Once we have fallen in love with the Gospel and shudder at the thought of His amazing grace, what then? Before we run after every unbeliever we know, we must learn to steward the story of the Gospel in Silence. Laboring, through the power of the Spirit, to build the inner components of spiritual character. Does your life, before you ever open your mouth to speak of Jesus, speak of Jesus? As stewards, we must carefully and diligently pay attention to our own lives so as to not obscure the story of God.

In Human terms Saul did not look like someone God could use. He was persecuting Christians. He was an instrument that God could use. Once he met the risen lord he was never the same again. The same passion that had led him to persecute Christians, led him to lead others to Christ.

Trusting Jesus During Difficult Times
We spend a lot of time, money and effort to try to make our lives more comfortable and avoid suffering. When suffering does come into our lives we often complain and wonder why God didn’t do something to prevent it. The Apostle Peter wrote to a group of Christians who were undergoing persecution because they followed Jesus and he told them that they shouldn’t be surprised by times of suffering but instead understand that Jesus suffered on our behalf while He was here and we should endure suffering for His sake with the same attitude that He had. We should be willing to share the Gospel with people regardless of how they will treat us afterward, knowing that we are blessed when we are mocked for our faith.

Stepping into the Furnace: Welcoming the Refinement of Our Faith
Our text this morning comes from the book of I Peter. To fully understand our passage we need to know about the context in which it was written. The apostle Peter wrote this letter to predominantly Gentile believers scattered throughout Asia Minor, which is present-day Turkey. It was most likely written during the early 60’s (as in 60AD, not the 1960’s), during the reign of the Roman Emperor, Nero. Nero was famous for his hatred and persecution of Christians. Under his reign believers suffered greatly for their commitment to Christ. Today we will explore what relevance a text written to those suffering believers could possibly have to us in 21st Century America.

Losing My Religion - Finding Freedom
The philosophical challenge to our contemporary faith is similar to that facing the young church in Colosse, namely that we are naive to think we can limit a connectedness to God to faith in Jesus. Paul explains that the cross was a demonstration of a deep forgiveness rather than superficial indifference to our moral failings. Consequently, faith in Jesus frees us from the uncertainty of getting religion right, and invites us into the dynamic relationship with God.
