Nehemiah - An Introduction
We all feel homesick. We have a place where we can put our stuff, but it's not home. We're a group of people who miss the same place. Eden echoes in each of our memories. Except this place isn't imaginary; it's real. And we're not going to get it back by trying to create a new home for ourselves. That is what all of humanity has attempted to do. We've all tried to create a place where we can say, "This place is right and good and is finally home." Oh, we might feel that for a short period of time, but our souls cry out for Eden.

Faithful Under Fire
The second church on John's postal route would have been the church at Smyrna. This city competed with Ephesus as the "key" city of Asia Minor and was steeped in deep patriotism and fierce loyalty to Rome. Into this environment steps a marginalized group of Christ-followers declaring that Jesus (not Caesar) was Lord! ...and all hell begins to break loose. As Thomas Torrence says: "The church cannot be the church, without causing trouble!" The key to understanding and embracing this text and this teaching comes in the first phrase: I am the First and the Last, who died and came to life again! Embedded in that statement is the hope these people needed....AND the hope WE need! Key Passage: Revelation 2:8-11

To The Praise Of His Glory
In Ephesians, it is not us who choose Him, but He who chooses and accepts us. We are the ones who are called to live by the power and work in the power that is in us through Him. Ephesians reveals the majesty of Jesus as it relates to His oneness with the Body. Every single one of us who belongs to Jesus Christ belongs to Him because of His will and not ours.

God's Gifts at Christmas: Part 1 Messy Gift Wrapping
God’s Gifts At Christmas Part 1: Messy Gift Wrapping Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Romans 7:15-19 Wrapping Paper is Not the Gift—Holiness is the Gift! . . . we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:10 And we . . . are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18 Misunderstanding Messy Gift Wrapping • Spiritual Apathy • Spiritual Performance “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.†Matthew 23:2-3 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.†Matthew 23:27-28 Unwrapping the Beautiful Mess 1. Thank God that you’re in PROCESS Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17 2. Trust God in your UNFINISHEDNESS . . . being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6 3. Pursue God with FAITHFULNESS “Set yourselves apart for a holy life. Live a holy life, because I am GOD, your God. Do what I tell you; live the way I tell you. I am the GOD who makes you holy.†Leviticus 20:7-8 (Msg) . . . pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 1 Timothy 6:11
