Parenting is a sacred calling. When the Lord entrusts us with children, our privilege involves not only providing for them materially, but ensuring that we disciple them in the knowledge and love of God. This concept was clearly established by God when He appointed Abraham as the father of the Hebrew nation. Genesis 18:18-19 explicitly communicates that Abraham had the responsibility of directing his children and household in the way of the Lord. God has attached this responsibility to the promise of blessings when he faithfully carried it out.

Psalm 117 is a song of praise directed to the Gentile nations. In it, we find three global applications regarding the glory of God. First, if for no other reason, praise the Lord for the global impact of His faithful love to Israel. Second, praise the Lord by your zeal for His global mission. Indeed, we ought to be driven by the desire for people of every nation to praise the Lord, not simply for their own sake, but primarily for the Lord's sake, since He alone is worthy to be praised. Third, praise the Lord, the object of global worship in the age to come. The global message, mission, and hope of Psalm 117 is partially realized today, but it will be fully realized in the age to come.
