Sermons About False-gods
No Middle Ground
1 Kings 17-18 We live in an age of compromise, which has been conveniently couched by terms such as "diversity", "tolerance", "respect", and "inclusivism". The view that there is only one truth and only one true God is viewed as intolerant, hard-hearted and controversial. But cooperation between faiths that are based on different doctrines will only lead to deceitful and misleading messages, and neither group can seek to convert the other. In fact, Paul warns us in 2 Corinthians 6:14 that we should not bond together with unbelievers, lest we be drawn away from worshipping the God of the Bible. Paul's instruction precludes cooperative unions with nonbelieving faiths and although we are called to be winsome in our witness, we are not to intermingle with people of other faiths - just as the Jews were called to be holy or separate from all the other peoples on earth. In 1 Kings 17-18, we learn of the crisis that the Israelites found themselves in as they were divided on whether to serve the false god Baal, or the one true God of Israel. Indeed, in Deuteronomy 6:4, Moses warned the Israelites that if they worshipped the gods of any other nation on the earth that God would wipe them out. It was in this dark era of compromise that God sent his servant Elijah to demonstrate to them without a doubt who the only real God is. The lesson of 1 Kings 17-18 is that God forces us to make a choice between Him and other gods. He demands an unwavoring, uncompromising devotion to Him. We know that God is a jealous God, and will share His glory with no one, and no other god. We also know that a man cannot serve two masters. For we who are Christians, are we following the Lord our God with all our hearts and does He have our entire lives? Are we guilty of pursuing other things, things that we may be worshipping besides God? How long will you hesitate to give it all up to the Lord? Make a choice now - God or the World. Make a choice and follow it whole heartedly!

God's Plan for You
God's plan for His people is blessings - not cursings. But, God's plan requires devotion to Him. As believers, we have an enemy who's plan is to seduce us and keep us from that devotion, and ultimately, the blessings of God. God did not leave us defenseless - our protection from the enemy is the Word of God.

Christ Formed in You

We Are Bringing You Good News
Acts is a book demonstrating the movement and power of the Holy Spirit. In Acts 13-14 we find the first missionary journey. Our text will explore what took place in Lystra while also seeing how the Spirit brought Paul and Barnabas to this point. The need for the church today is to see that the Holy Spirit "sets apart" those whom He chooses... He sends them out (with little agenda directions, incidentally) and the Spirit causes men and women's hearts to turn to the Living God. The question for the church today is are we like the Church at Antioch or more like the Jerusalem church... and do we worship and prepare our hearts in such a manner as to hear the Holy Spirit speak the words, "Set apart for me...(insert your name here)".

False gods
Rachel took her fathers household gods. Laban searched through Jacobs belongings but was unable to find his gods. This sermon looks at how false gods have no power to seek out mankind and no power to save man.
