Sermons About False-teaching
The Weapons of Our Warfare
As the Apostle writes again to the church that he founded in Corinth he strives to correct their view of the Gospel as delivered by himself, an apostle of Jesus Christ. He fights against their culturally skewed understanding of his apostleship and therefore the message that he has given them. He defends the truth against the enemies of Christ who take the form of ministers of righteousness. This is where the battle lies and with whom we must be engaged. This is "Spiritual Warfare!"

The Church in Ephesus: Revelation 2:1-7
The letter to the Ephesians in Revelation begins with a commendation. Jesus commends the Ephesians for their doctrinal purity. They have fought false teachings and have remained faithful to the truth without growing weary and giving up. Yet, though they have remained doctrinally pure, they have ceased to be faithful witnesses for Jesus because they lost her first love for Jesus. Jesus calls them to remember the depths of their sin and how much they have been forgiven. Some of us are like the prodigal son or the sinful woman in Luke 7, and we know we have been saved from a life of sin. We have been overwhelmed by his grace, but over time, the memory fades and we grow prideful and self-reliant. For others of us, the danger is that we have never had a sinful woman experience. We may not have ever felt desperate, out of control, absolutely empty, and needy. Our savior walks among his people and he sees them all. He will forgive us if we will stop trying to be perfect and simply fall at his feet and beg him for mercy. Run to the one who, though his face shown like the sun, willingly took on flesh to die on the cross in our place.

Jesus > False Teachers pt. 2
Colossians 2:1-10 Jesus promises us that the Gospel will always have enemies. Some of them will be blatantly obvious, for example those who persecute and kill our brothers and sisters in Christ all over the world. Whether those attackers be government sanctioned or religious zealots in the 1st Century or the 21st it is easy to see how they would be considered and enemy of the Gospel. Others however are more subtle. In the Apostle Paul’s day it was the Gnostics claiming that flesh is bad and the spirit is good therefore Jesus couldn’t be both Man and God at the same time. If he wasn’t both man and God simultaneously He couldn’t have lived the sinless life and been able to offer himself in our place for our sin. In our day we wrestle with the Prosperity Gospel (aka Health and Wealth Gospel, Word of Faith Movement, or the Faith Healing movement) and its preachers. Today I hope make that point that “you complete in (Jesus), who is the head of all principality and power” (vs. 10) and not in the status symbols of our day!

Fending Off False Teaching
Jude 17-23 In tonight's message, Mike Goins teaches from the Book of Jude in verses 17-23. Here, Jude gives the beloved three tactics to fend off false teaching so that they can earnestly for the faith. As believers, we must first remember the repeated warnings of the apostles about the apostates to come, so that we may not be taken by surprise. Second, we must remain in the truths of the Christian faith by building up the body of Christ and by praying with eager anticipation of the Lord's return while living in obedience through God's grace. Finally, we must also reach out to those who fall prey to apostates, are doubtful and susceptable to be led astray from the truth, and those who are committed to the errors taught by apostates. Jude concludes his message with a beautiful doxology (verses 24-25) that captures his theme of salvation, which was meant to bolster the courage of his fellow believers, and is equally encouraging for believers today: "Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to God our Savior, Who is alone wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever, Amen"

The Danger of False Teachers
9 Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them. The command here is very simple but one that must be obeyed. It is your one point for this morning and then I would like to provide some application for this point.

The Call To Contend
JUDE 3-4 To counter false teachers ("certain people" v. 3) Jude calls upon the people of God to contend for the faith. This Faith is the body of truth given by God to the apostles who in turn have entrusted to the church. The Faith is both truth-content and transformed living consistent with that body of truth.
