Sermons About Fatherhood
Visionary Fatherhood
Pastor Scott Head takes the congregation through Psalm 127 on Father's Day 2009. He strongly exhorts the men to rise up and take hold of their role as visionaries for their families, their communities, and their culture. However, men cannot do this in their own strength or according to their own thinking. All the "righteous deeds" of men are like filthy rags before God. "Unless, the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain," says Psalm 127:1. Men everywhere are encouraged to listen as Pastor Head challenges them to bring their whole lives into submission to God. This kind of exhortation is uncommon in our time and very sorely needed.

Embrace Your Father
I wrestled with what to preach on Father’s Day for a few reasons. First of all, for some, Father’s day brings fresh memories of the loss of a father. You remember those precious times together that you’ll not share anymore this side of Heaven. For others, who have had an estranged relationship with your father, Father’s brings up a flood of confusing images. We also have fathers of all ages in here. I could gin up a challenging message on the need for fatherhood in America, but there are few young fathers in here besides myself who would be challenged. And it’s a tough sell, considering that I probably need the biggest challenge myself.

Fatherhood
The challenges of being a dad are harder than ever in today's culture. So we're thankful to get even one day out of the year to recognize the importance of fatherhood, and honor the dads in our community. We were able to do just that during this year's Father's Day at The Promise.

Be A Praying Dad
There is a special dad here at Oak. Many years ago he watched as his son went off to Viet Nam. He prayerfully surrendered the care of his son into the hands of the God he loves. This special dad’s son fell in the field of battle and now he waits for the day when he too goes to be with his son and Jesus. Fatherhood is a gift that is easily overlooked. Moments alarm us to its precious value and as we grow older our children increase in value, even if they have broken our hearts. Jesus met a dad who had such a moment. He may have been a good dad before, but after his moment, nothing was the same.

Finding Freedom in the Father
We're often sold that there are 12 easy steps to good parenting. In this message, Pastor Simmons asks why we don't hold God the Father responsible for the bad behaivor of his children? Simply: freedom. Freedom is the mark of relationship, and it was Jesus' free choice to die on our behalf that gives us the free choice to receive him... or not.

The Good Humor Man
Whether we realize it or not, our kids are watching and learning from our attitude towards the Christian life. Are fathers teaching their children that a Christian is always in a bad mood and never has any fun? This message explores the duty that fathers have to create an upbeat, wholesome atmosphere in their home.

But Father, You Promised
We often get upset when people don't keep their promises. It is especially significant to children when parents don't live up to what they promised. But God, our Father, will never fail us. This message examines the reality and the results of God's promises to us as His children.
