How Does Jesus Define His Church?
How Does Jesus Define His Church? Scripture: Luke 4:16-30 We dare not let our culture, business practices, or even our denominational traditions define the church for us. If we attempt to duplicate the practices of other churches without measurement against our mission and vision, we will never reach our full potential. Jesus’ first sermon in His hometown church gives clear insight on His thoughts regarding what the very nature of His church should be. The setting: Jesus ministering in His home town of Nazareth Five powerful proclamations of grace that will be the defining moments for His church! The church is to proclaim: 1. The gospel (good news) will be preached to the poor. The trapped and powerless are to receive hope. 2. The captives will be released The human spirit will be set free of all strongholds and bondages. 3. The blind will see. All blindness of the human heart and mind will be exposed to the light of truth. 4. The downtrodden will be free from their oppressors. Justice will be restored. 5. The time of the Lord’s favor has come. Enough is enough! The Lord has come to restore what was taken.
