In Mark 2 we see that when Christ proclaims the Good News that God calls sinners by grace alone not due to human effort, rituals or religion there is always either feasting or fasting, rejoicing or resentment.
Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes 7 that the house of mourning is better for us than the house of feasting. Here we get to see that our brokenness is extremely valuable, even necessary for living out the Christian faith. It also teaches us that the cross had to happen before the joy of the resurrection came.
As we study Nehemiah 8 we will take time to consider what it is about God that is able to move his people, the Israelites, from weeping to rejoicing and feasting. It is our goal that the God they saw would be the God you would see as you ponder Him in His word and that you too, would find yourself overwhelmed with joy and moved to celebrate our great God.
