Broken
"Broken" Malachi 2:10-16 Part 7 When our spiritual relationship is broken we become: 1. Unfaithful in our fellowship with others. We are called to love one another because we share: * The same Father * The same faith 2. Unfaithful to our Father in heaven. The Israelites unfaithfulness was evident when: * God's covenant of marriage was ignored * The people's choice in marriage allowed for idolatry God's anger towards inter-marriage * Had nothing to do with race * It was all about religion 3. Unfaithful to our families. God declares that he is the sole: * Author of marriage * Authority in marriage * Administrator in marriage God's plan to prevent broken marriage is seen in his: * Attitude towards divorce * Admonition to pursue faithfulness with your spouse Malachi's message today has practical application for the * Not married * Nearly married * Newly married * Numbly married * Narrowly married

True Fellowship involves Judging each other
What is fellowship? Much more than attending a meeting and getting preached at -or even sharing a meal afterwards- true, Biblical fellowship is a mutual commitment between members of the brotherhood/ekklesia/church, that they will keep one another true to the Way, that they will judge one another and ensure that those who are in the brotherhood truly do represent 'the faith once delivered to the saints' (Jude 3). It is in this context that 'the blood of Yeshu`/Jesus cleanses us from sin."

Philippians 1:7-8 - Sources of Joyful Affection
Paul bases his affection on the Philippians on the confidence He has in God's work in their lives. The doctrine known as "The Perseverance of the Saints" (or "Eternal Security") is an essential orthodox belief that if adamantly rejection will destroy the Gospel of Grace and create another religion foreign to the teachings of Christ. Paul's affection was not motivated by merely earthly emotions but by Christ’s love for his people. We find in these few verses 3 sources for the affections that Paul had for the Philippians: 1) Affections in the center of his heart, 2) Affections of fellowship, and 3) Affections of Christ Himself. We must learn that our confident affections for others stem from knowing that their salvation (and ours) doesn't rest in their (or our) grip on God, but on God's grip on them (us). You will need to look at these verses and ask yourself: Is my faith a genuine saving faith in Christ - one that is authored by Him, sustained by Him, and will one day be completed by Him. Your answer to that question should convict you know how sinful it is not to have been possessed with the affection of Christ for each other as Paul was.

Philippians 1:3-6 - Joyous Thanksgiving
In American Society we are tempted to domesticate the Gospel through secularization, self-indulgence, and pluralism. We don't want to abandon Christianity but we marginalize and privatize it. We are more concerned about being comfortable and secure than with the truth of the Gospel. Paul's thanksgiving was joyful in the fact that the Philippians did not marginalize the Gospel of Christ but in fact participated in it. Gospel Fellowship always exceeds all earthly fellowship because it is rooted in God in an eternal quest. We see Paul’s thanksgiving grounded in 3 things: 1) A Thankful Remembrance, 2) A Thankful Fellowship, and 3) A Thankful Confidence or Assurance. It is not your grip on God that has made the difference or will make the difference in your life, but God's grip on you. In these 3 verses you learn not to be confident in your goodness, character, history, perseverance, but in God. Paul's joy and thanksgiving comes not because he attended a hotdog fellowship with the Philippians but because they suffered for something Greater - the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is God's work in us that is a cause for great thanksgiving. Is God Working in you so that you? If he is you will be participating in the Gospel.

Digging Community
Threshold is about three things: worship, cells and service. This week's talk is based on Acts 2 and describes our hope for cells. Teaching. Fellowship. Shared meals. Lord's supper. Prayer. This is the microcosm of the church. Or to speak in terms of biology, "vital functions of an organism occur within cells."

The Gift of Community (1 John 1:1-7)
Christian community is built around our shared experience of the gospel. Community always begins with God, and God gives us community as a means of transforming our lives more and more into the image of his son. However, community is not merely a tool for growth, but also a gift from God for our joy as well as for our good.

How Genuine Faith Redeems Fellowship
Christian community should be marked by mutual love and understanding but far too often it rife with bitterness, gossip, and harsh words between members. This is often caused because people do not forgive each other when they are sinned against but instead harbor a self-righteous attitude and think that they are above committing the kind of sin in question. Peter reminds us that we are all to be united because we have all been forgiven by God because Christ died for our sins, and just as God did not repay us evil for our evil towards Him but instead gave us forgiveness and grace we too are to bless and forgive those that sin against us.

Do You Have Fellowship With God - 1 John 1:5-7
Many people think that everything between them and God is just fine. They don't think that sin matters, but what we find in this section of 1 John is that sin does matter because of who God is. Do you have fellowship with God, or are you living a lie?

The Purpose Driven Life (#3): Formed for God's Family
We were formed to be part of God’s family because God wants a family. Fellowship—the second purpose of our life—is loving God’s family, loving our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. There are four levels of fellowship: membership, friendship, partnership, and kinship. Which level are you experiencing? How are you developing the purpose of fellowship in your life?

You, Me and Wii: Spiritual Formation through Spiritual Friendship
This morning we’re looking at our community, and in particular the need and importance of cultivating spiritual friendships within our community, because I am convinced that our growth as Christians is often hindered because we are attempting to go it alone. And because of our lack of real spiritual friendship, our witness to a watching world is diminished because they do not see the kind of love and support that only the family of God can truly possess in Christ.

Why We Need Each Other
Better Together – 40 Days of Community “Why We Need Each Other” This morning we begin our new series on 40 Days of Community. As we plan to deepen our relationships within our church, we also will be joining eight other churches in reaching out to our community. We want to build awareness of three important goals during these messages: 1. No one is to be left alone. 2. No one is to remain unchallenged. 3. Everyone is to learn how to encourage someone. Encouragement from fellow pilgrims
In this sermon we consider what it looks like for Christians to engage in fellowship in a local church. It is grace motivated watchfulness for the fingerprints of grace in the lives of others -- and speaking and living in a way that furthers that grace.

Christ and the Oneness of His People
The word "community" has become a buzz word in our culture and in the Church. But what is it? Where does it come from? How do we find it? And, if we are fortunate enough to find it, how do we maintain it? Listen in as we look to the Scriptures to discover the truth about community.

Brothers and Sisters in Christ
From the outside, the church may look like a man-made organization, but it's actually a family--the family of God. Christians need to treat each other like brothers and sisters in Christ, because we are all adopted into the same family. Being in the family of God involves at least two commitments that we must make to Christ and each other.

Are You in Da Family?
I want to look at a metaphor that the Bible uses in reference to the church. In the Bible, the apostles compared the church to a family. But instead of using several analogies, I want to examine four biblical truths about God's family, the Church. We want to see how these truths affect the relationship we have with our church family.

The Heart of Christian Prayer
Jesus wants us to understand that Christian prayer is a matter of the heart, not the externals. Christians pray believing God sees them, though no one else does, and hears them because Jesus has removed every obstacle to prayer.

Resolutions for a New Year
This sermon asks us to look back at 2007 and determine if we have really served the Lord and grown to our potential. Then it challenges us as individuals and as a church body to make 2008 a year that we will never forget. The ultimate challenge is to make sure we as individuals and corporately as a church are putting soul winning as our #1 priority in all we do!!

Acts 11:19-24 - The Report on Alathia
As the Gospel of Jesus Christ spread out from Jerusalem it came to the city of Antioch. A church was planted there and many people came to faith in Christ, and the report about the good things the church was doing made it back to Jerusalem. Almost two thousand years later the Gospel has come to the Issaquah Highlands, and a report about Alathia would say that we are pretty good at compassion, being generous with our money, and community service, but that we really need to improve in fellowship, regular weekly involvement, and sharing our faith with our neighbors.

Acts 9:32-43 - Committed to Community
The apostle Peter was traveling to different towns teaching the Scriptures to the believers there. These believers were meeting together regularly and were committed to being involved in each other’s lives. The instructions that Peter was giving them, which we can get a sense of from his letters, would have impossible to follow apart from living in community with other believers who knew each other well enough to know what each other was going through and struggling with. As Christians we need to understand that it is impossible for us to grow in our relationship with Christ if we are not in a group of believers who are involved enough in each other’s lives to be praying for, encouraging, and when necessary confronting each other.
