Running From God
Running From God Elijah in 1 Kings 19: 1-21 witnessed the power of God in the 18th chapter when 450 prophets of Baal offered sacrifices’ to Baal on Mount Carmel and nothing happened. Elijah had them pour water and more water over the offerings and wood and the power of God consumed everything, the wood, sacrifices and the stones. After seeing all these things, when his live was threatened, he ran and did from persecution and God. How often do we do the same thing?

Image Building = All of Our Insecurities at Work
Image Building = All of Our Insecurities at Work Daniel Chapter three Six ways to know if this image in Babylon is defining us: 1. Attempting to make impressions that are bigger than we really are.(1) 2. Needing the strokes of VIPs. (2, 3) 3. Self-worship “I am, and there is none besides me.†(Isa. 47:8, 10) 4. Setting up situations where others are motivated to worship us(4-7) 5. Making demanded displays of loyalty. (8-15) 6. Anger when our elaborate self-scheme is opposed. (13, 19) Three tests of our faith brought on by the fire. 16-27 (Hebrews 11) 1. Deliverance faith – we can be delivered from the fire. 2. Enduring faith – we can be delivered through the fire. 3. Commended (graduating) faith – we can be delivered by the fire into the arms of Jesus. The three friends were already committed to the flames before they knew precisely what form of deliverance they would experience. Complete deliverance by Jesus, the fourth man in the fire, means that only the ropes (i.e. those things that bind us) are removed in the fire. We are refined with no hair singed, without the smell of smoke and only what’s “fake†is burned.

Faithful Under Fire
The second church on John's postal route would have been the church at Smyrna. This city competed with Ephesus as the "key" city of Asia Minor and was steeped in deep patriotism and fierce loyalty to Rome. Into this environment steps a marginalized group of Christ-followers declaring that Jesus (not Caesar) was Lord! ...and all hell begins to break loose. As Thomas Torrence says: "The church cannot be the church, without causing trouble!" The key to understanding and embracing this text and this teaching comes in the first phrase: I am the First and the Last, who died and came to life again! Embedded in that statement is the hope these people needed....AND the hope WE need! Key Passage: Revelation 2:8-11

Justice and Eternal Punishment
Even though messages about Hell are often labelled 'offensive' or 'antiquated' or 'irrelevent', God's word is clear about the reality that those without the righteousness of Christ will eternally experience God's justice because of their condition of rebellion against God.

The Purer Our Faith, The More Pleasing Our Praise
God has his hand on the thermostat and his hand on the timer. He knows how hot it should be and how long it should be. When we're in the fire or our trial, you can rest assured that there's a sovereign God that knows how hot it should be and how long you should be in it. The purer our faith, the more pleasing our praise is to him. That's the reason for fires and trials.
