Learning to Fish
A sermon about our responsibility in being called to be fishers of people
Follow Me, And I Will Make You Fishers of Men
Jesus called His disciples with a rather succinct statement, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. In this passage, He was speaking to fishers of fish, but He was calling them to something far more significant then merely putting food on the table. Jesus call, as simple as it was, reveals our Lord's intent, a promise of instruction, and an implication for all who would follow Him faithfully. Listen carefully, for all of us who name the name of Christ, are also called to be fishers of men.
Following our Master's Voice - Mark 1:16-20
In Mark 1:16-20 we learn that: 1. The Master's Voice Calls us into a Supernatural Mission 2. The Master's Voice Calls into Immediate Submission
Fish, Lamb, and Sheep
Jesus appears to the 7 disciples at the Sea of Tiberius (also known as the Sea of Galilee). Through this experience with Jesus, he is directing his disciples to go out into the world and bring people to God. The "net" in this story can be interpreted as the Church. Jesus then gets Peter to commit to tend and lead his "sheep".
Called to Kingdom LIfe
This week we see how Jesus calls people to adjust to the new reality of the much-announced (via John) and the much anticipated (via the prophets all the way from Gen. 3) King and his kingdom. John learns how to decrease (off to prison) and fisherman followers learn how to leave fishing for fishing as part of Christ's sorting everything out as the King of everything who will build his church upon their preaching as his apostles.
