Sermons About Flesh
A Spirit-Led Community
It is common in our culture for Christians to get frustrated with the church and feel they don't need community in order to grow spiritually and serve God. But, the Bible is very clear that we are meant to live, grow, and serve in community with other believers. God doesn't just call us all together to figure out how to live together on our own. He has given believers His Spirit and the church to lead us and empower us. In this sermon, we examine God's description of at what a community led by the Spirit looks like.

The Spirit and the Flesh
The Bible tells us that Christians have two opposing motivational systems working inside of our hearts: the Spirit and the Flesh. One works for our good, while the other only has the appearance of working for our good. When we function from one or the other, it has a significant impact on our character. In this sermon, we take a look at how God changes our character through the Holy Spirit, Who changes our motivations and desires.

When we are saved by grace, we rest in the reality that we are always and only accepted by God, not on the basis of our inadequate and inconsistent works, but on the basis of Jesus’ perfect work on the cross.

Doing Good
Paul describes the Spirit-led community, which practices love, through a series of commands. We are able to live this way because of what Christ has done for us, and is doing in us. He also works thru us to develop healthy community.

A Body to Offer
During O.T. days, a Man could pay the debt of his Kinsman or relative. A slave could be redeemed by his brother or cousin. Jesus had to be our relative, a man, a man with a body to offer.

Walking by the Spirit Part 2
Paul contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit as he discusses the shape our freedom is to take. The indwelling Spirit leads us to obey God out of love, in part by leading us to a greater knowledge of God and our position in Christ. We are responsible to keep in step with Him that Christ may be formed in us.

Walking By the Spirit Part 1
Paul moves from our great privilige to our great responsibility- to walk in/by the Spirit. It is founded on the graces of justification & adoption, and is the grace of sanctification. It has both positive and negative aspects: the fruit of the Spirit & the putting to death of the desires of the flesh. This sermon covers putting sin to death.

Freedom-Faith In Partnership with God - Galatians #12
What makes the Christian faith like no other? The good news of God’s grace is the bold claim that we are accepted by God not because we “follow the rules” or “fit the mold” but because Jesus gave his own life to rescue us. But many of us are still trying to earn God’s love with our performance rather than living in the freedom that Jesus has provided for us. In Galatians, Paul warns against the danger of religious systems that value people on grounds of accomplishment or status or cultural agreement. These things lock away our freedom in the futility of legalism, moral superiority and cultural arrogance. Focusing on either the racial/ethnic/cultural superiority or the moral successes of good works denies the gospel and divides Jesus’ followers. Join us as we explore how God offers us true freedom in Jesus and how the freedom of Christ transforms our hearts, our minds and lives.
