Sermons About Follower
Introduction to the Book of Mark
rust in Jesus. • The gospel message is an invitation to trust in Jesus instead of myself to rescue you me from sin, from death, and from hell. • The reason this story is good news, no great news, is because we are undeserving of such love, undeserving of Jesus’ work in our place, on our behalf. • The gospel comes to us because religion has left us empty – religion is simply our efforts to make God like us – self-salvation. But the gospel is God’s work to make us holy – His salvation. • If you have not trusted in Jesus for your salvation, do it today – don’t leave without confirming that you don’t just know about Jesus, but that you have trusted Him to save you. Study Jesus. • Some think that after they put their confidence in Jesus for salvation, they are done with the process. • But we need to continue to look at Jesus (not just for our eternal hope) for two immediate reasons: 1) Jesus shows us the Father – He is the perfect revelation of God. 2) Jesus shows us the people we need to be. • Years ago, I realized that if I wanted to know God, I needed to study Jesus. He is God in the flesh. • Commit yourself to look at Him, learn about Him, and study Him throughout this series. • Become an expert in Jesus – as much as you learn about cars and TVs and yard-care and home improvement and child-rearing, learn about Jesus. Study Him – it will change your life. Follow Jesus. • Third and finally, commit to follow Him. Mark’s invitation is not just to know Him, but to follow Him. • We’re calling this series Disciple, which means student or apprentice – learning from the One we want to be like, to learn from. Our goal is not just to look at Him, but to become like Him. • If we finish this series and all you have to show for it is a book of new information on the shelf, then we have not honored the God who gave us these words. • He is calling us to follow His Son – to run after Jesus in all we do. • I ask you during this series to put into practice what you learn.

The Full Life is Meant to be Shared
Lead Pastor Jeff Lawrence's son, Mike, had an accident while they were vacationing in La Jolla, California. On Sunday morning, October 5th, he fell out a window onto a concrete walkway nearly three stories below. Amazingly, Mike's life was spared, and in time he should see a full recovery. Jeff and family remained with Mike in California while he was recovering. This traumatic experience combined with several weeks in a beautiful place created space for some intense reflection. Jeff will be sharing some of what he's been learning in a new sermon series called "Living in La Jolla: Field Notes from Heaven-on-Earth."

The Purpose of the Law - Galatians #7
As we have been walking through the book of Galatians, one message has come through loud and clear--we cannot relate to God on the basis of obedience to a list of commands, rules, or guidelines. God's grace is the only means we have to enter into a relationship with God and the only means we have to walk with Him every day as a follower of Christ. And as we move ahead in Galatians chapter 3 today, Paul will answer the question for us, "What is the purpose of the law, then?"

I'm All In!
When Jesus called His first disciples, it was an "all or nothing" venture. He attracted HUGE crowds of course, but when it got down to the "tough stuff" many of them scattered quickly...only a committed few were will to pay the high price of following Jesus. So what kind of followers are we? And what kind of followers are we reproducing? The time is short - we need all hands on deck! Key Passages: 1 Peter 2:2-3 and Hebrews 5:14

Sharing Our Stories of Faith With Others--Galatians #6
How can we as a church better focus our lives toward those who are outside of the faith on a daily basis? First, we must ask good questions with genuine interest and concern. Next, we must learn to communicate our stories of faith more effectively. God will continue to use us to be a blessing in the lives of others as we sharpen those skills.
