Don't Wait for Your Ship to Come In, Live Life Now

The Purpose-Given Life
It was God's great purpose displayed in Moses -- not the greatness of Moses himself -- that taught Moses how to number his days and apply his heart to wisdom. That truth (echoed in New Testament passages such as Philippians 2:13) teaches us that we all have a God-given purpose. Rather than seeking to discover "our purpose in life," we gladly accept "God's purpose in our life" -- to give Him glory and pleasure all of our days.

Am All Knowing
God is someone who always sees the path ahead of us. What would it mean to walk with a God like that? I can trust God with my future & exchange my O.K. plans for His best plans. I can also trust God with my present. This is tough for the Google-map culture we live in. We expect to know every step NOW. What would it mean to trust this all-knowing God with my past?

Know Where You've Been
How can we be confident of God's faithfulness? The proof is in the past--we have a record of God's continual protection and provision in our personal and collective memories. Just as Caleb and Joshua knew that God would sustain them as they entered the promised land because God had already delivered them from Egypt and provided along the way, so we can look back on our own lives and see how God's hand is always at work. We don't have to know where we're going but where we've been!

Joshua led them to cross the Jordan River and move into the land God had promised them. Thus, they had graduated from the school of "wilderness wanderings." Now, they were commencing in a new stage of life. There was joy over graduation, but anxiety over the future.
