Keep in Step with the Spirit, Part 4
In 5:25, Paul issues a general exhortation to believers to keep in step with the Spirit. Then, in 5:26-6:10, he gives two evidences of what it looks like to keep in step with the Spirit. Specifically, Paul applies gentleness and goodness (fruit of the Spirit, vv. 22-23) and shows how they work out practically in the life of the church. These two evidences elaborate on what it looks like in daily life to love one’s neighbor (i.e., fulfill the law, 5:14). The first evidence is seen in how believers treat fellow believers who have become entrapped in sin. Paul exhorts believers to keep in step with the Spirit in order to restore sinning believers (5:26-6:5). The second evidence in which Paul reveals what it looks like to keep in step with the Spirit is seen in how believer use their money (6:6-10). Specifically, in 6:6-10, Paul exhorts believers to generously use their money in three areas. First, in v. 6, Paul exhorts believers to generously support those who teach the gospel.
Living Generously # 1 - Meet Rich Barnheart
Joyful generosity is one of the marks of a healthy church. If it is to become a reality in our lives individually, then some personal assessment will be required. This message will help us to look at our heart condition when it comes to earthly treasure.
Contented in Christ, Philippians 4: 10-23
Have you noticed how the materially well-off are generally less contented than those in poorer countries; how material wealth doesn't generally lead to contentment? We get frustrated when things don't go the way we want them to; when they are out of our control. However, Paul says he has learned the secret of being content in any and every situation. What is this secret? Paul is encouraged by the generosity shown to him by the believers at Philippi. He is grateful for their support, for their partnership with him in the Gospel. Such generosity pleases God, as it reflects His own abundant nature. This generosity however leaves Paul feling a little uncomfortable. He is at pains to stress that the Gospel should be heard without any strings attached; it's not to be paid for. So, what is Paul's secret? His security is in Christ. He relies on God to meet all his needs, knowing that God is far better at this than he, Paul. This is a truth to be learnt for everyday life: Trust in Jesus; not yourself, wealth or success.
Keep in Step with the Spirit, Part 3

Keep in Step with the Spirit, Part 1
In 5:25, Paul issues a general exhortation to believers to keep in step with the Spirit. Then, in 5:26-6:10, he gives two practical expressions of what it means to keep in step with the Spirit. Specifically, Paul applies gentleness and goodness (fruit of the Spirit, vv. 22-23) and shows how they work out practically in the life of the church. These two expressions elaborate on what it looks like in daily life to love one’s neighbor (i.e., fulfill the law, 5:14). Before examining the two practical expressions of what it looks like to keep in step with the Spirit, we will first look at Paul’s general exhortation in v. 25. In v. 25, Paul reveals a very important insight into how the Christian life is to be lived. First, Paul reminds believers of the source of their new life (v. 25a) and then he exhorts believers to keep in step with their new life (v. 25b). Simply put, "Be who you are!"
