What To Do With Our Doubt
It wasn't until Asaph went to the sanctuary of God, until he was able to gain God's eternal perspective and saw that and see that God is both in control and good and could say: Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

God Is ... Good
Taste is a funny thing isn’t it? Everyone has a different perspective on taste. What tastes good to me may be bad to you. And even funnier is the way our taste changes. As we get older, what we thought was good, we lose a taste for and what we may have thought wasn’t so good, we begin to crave. The Psalmist said, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” But is God really good? I mean, he may be good to me, but what about to you? Do you ever question God’s goodness? Do you ever read the Bible and wonder about the OT stories of God’s judgment? Or perhaps more personally, have you had a life experience that causes you to doubt God’s goodness? Is there suffering or loss in your life that you blame on God? Do you say God is good, but secretly believe that He is harsh and uncaring towards you? The Bible teaches us that God is good. But according to the Psalm 34, knowing and experiencing that goodness requires our response. From our limited human perspective we cannot know and understand God’s goodness, but we can “taste and see.” “Tasting and seeing” we can know and experience that God is good.

Pressing In
God has laid hold of us for a reason, for a purpose. We need to grab on to God and discover what he wants us to do. And do not let go until we learn that reason.

The Journey
Do you ever wonder why certain parts of the Bible become so popular? What is it about Psalm 23 that connects with us? Reading Psalm 23 is like someone has taken the mixed up graffiti letters in our soul and placed the letters together in a beautiful way expressing confidence and trust in God that we all so desperately need in a confusing world. Psalm 23 fills us with hope to travel on because we are on a journey; an outer and inner journey, a journey of fullness and emptiness, of quiet and chaos, right turns and wrong turns, death and life, fear and security, friends and enemies, fasting and feasting. This journey seems very hard to make sense of, like color thrown randomly at a blank sheet of paper. The truth that we travel this journey with God does not make it easy or simple but it does bring color, beauty and meaning. Psalm 23 reminds us all that the Lord is guiding us and cares for us. This is a truth every person on the planet longs to rest in.
