Finding God in the Silence
The Lord’s staggering invitation for us to come to the banquet he is preparing. “He said to his servants, ‘the wedding banquet is ready…Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find…” Matthew 22:8-9
The Fruit of the Spirit is Goodness
Fruit of the Spirit: Goodness (6 of 9) INTRODUCTION Today, we continue our 9 part series on the Fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 states, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” This is one fruit made up of nine parts. This fruit determines not your ministry in the faith but your maturity in the faith. The development of this Fruit is not automatic. This is the Fruit of the Holy Spirit. In other words, to the degree it is displayed in our lives is to the degree that we are cooperating with Him in transforming us. In other words, are we cooperating with His purposes to mold us into the image of Jesus Christ, who displayed all these characteristics in full array? When we understand the Fruit of the Spirit, we can better remain in tune with what He wants to do with our lives. We have to realize it is not an easy journey. There is a tug of war going on between what we want and what God wants. The Holy Spirit does not force Himself upon us, but He lives within us, speaking to us, and leading us in connection with God’s Word to be more like that Word! Today, we are talking about GOODNESS. Goodness implies means being good to someone. The word is used to describe someone who is generous, benevolent or filled with good will or charity to others. At first glance it looks similar to kindness. We use them interchangeably. There is certainly overlap; both are something done for the benefit of others, both can do a lot of good in the lives of others, something nice, but there is a reason they are separate. There are differences. Kindness is more of the gentle and tender side. Goodness is more active and aggressive. Kindness is seen as “WOW, I can’t believe you did that.” Goodness can get that, but sometimes goodness rebukes and corrects the other person and people can think it is anything but nice. Sometimes goodness offends people. Goodness is kindness on steroids. The Bible says that God is good. In other words, it is part of His character. Because of this, He is full of goodness. We have to understand what good is because we throw it around in a lot of ways…..food is good, my car is good, vacations are good….but there is more to goodness than that. Things are GOOD when they function according to the purpose it was created to serve. God told us that His creation was GOOD. Things are GOOD when they fit God’s expectation of the morality standard. God knows what is good, therefore what God says is good is good and what He says is bad is bad. Sometimes this conflicts with culture. Things are GOOD when somebody does something nice in someone’s life that has a longstanding benefit on behalf of God. In other words, things are GOOD when it produces kingdom fruit. We were created for goodness. Our lives have purpose because of that. God created us with purposes in mind. God wants to use our lives to display His goodness. Before you were born, God had good things for you to do to show the world HIM! We were created for goodness. Today, we will look at six primary ways God displays goodness in our lives; ways that we can show goodness in our people’s lives.

Every believer needs to be convinced that God is good! There are plenty of circumstances that transpire in our lives that might lead us to believe otherwise. There are people in the world that tell us otherwise. The is a devil who has spawned lies to the contrary and there are even fellow believers that will share their own misunderstanding on the subject. But the Scriptures are clear - God is good! He tells us He is good. God defines goodness. God has never been anything but good. And the earth is full of the the goodness of our God. This message will encourage you with a truth that superintends every event in the believer's life.
