Exposure of False Assurance (Matthew 3:9)
There is nothing so common today - particularly among the professing church of Jesus Christ - than for men to think that all is well with their souls; that their eternity is secure; that their forms and activities of religion are enough to secure their favor with God. The thought of being self-deceived, or wrong about their religious confidence is offensive and an affront to their religious pride. However, if there is ever an area where it is crucial that we be right it is in the area of the true condition of our souls. A person can be wrong about many things and suffer but passing consequences, but to be wrong about one’s standing with God is the most dreadful of all errors. “The power of self-deception in unconverted man is infinite.” (Ryle) John the Baptist confronts the false hope and assurance of religious hypocrites. And he does this because a false religious confidence leads to a false assurance of salvation, which leads to eternal damnation. So, John wants expose this sandy foundation so that those who hear him and we ourselves could be rescued from self-deceit and enter into the true glories and joys of assurance built on the rock of truth and obedience.

Three Witnesses & Three Reactions to the King (Matthew 2:1-12)
Matthew continues in His witness to the birth of the long awaited King of the Jews and sets the stage for the reaction of the world to Him: 1) Magi - Gentiles from the East, give witness by their searching for the King 2) Herod - pagan ruler of Jerusalem, gives witness by his fear of the King, and 3) the Jewish Leaders give witness by their acknowledging the Scriptures testimony to the King. All give testimony to the reality of a King born, to the Jews, in the Land of Bethlehem. They each also stand as a warning to us in the church and bear witnesses to the fact that no one is saved apart from faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Revelation and Relationship
One of the main themes of the Bible is that God has revealed Himself to people. He has revealed Himself through nature, through different prophets throughout history, and through Jesus. But, for what purpose? Why has God gone to such lengths to make Himself known to us? And, why are we so slow respond to His revelation? In this sermon we explore those questions and find that the primary reason for God’s revelation is relationship.

Identifying with Jesus
People often determine their worth and identity through identifying themselves with a particular skill or trait they possess that other people deem valuable. As Christians, we find our identity and worth through identifying ourselves with Jesus and His gospel. In this message, we examine how Christian suffering and persecution is rooted in the Christian's identification with Christ.

Receiving the Message
How can one message be both the Greatest News and the Worst News? This week we are reminded that each person's response to the Gospel, which is ultimately responding to God, becomes the greatest salvation imaginable or the greatest condemnation imaginable. For those who accept the Gospel, there are instructions for how it is to be shared with others. For those who reject the Gospel, there is a serious punishment, which can only be avoided through faith in Jesus.

Lord of the Harvest

Join us as we learn how the Gospel forces us to both identify with people who are harassed and hopeless, and at the same time gives us the ability to take part in the harvest Jesus describes in this passage of the Bible.

Understanding Our Need
On any given day, there are numerous events, situations, and encounters we witness and perceive. What we often fail to recognize is how much our view of ourself actually changes our perception of the rest of the world. As sinners, do we come to Jesus with an understanding of our own need to be healed? Or like the religious people of Jesus' day, do we treat his healing power with contempt and deny our own need to be continually healed by God?
