Sermons about Grace
It is amazing when you think about it. In a "perfect" environment the serpent got Eve & Adam to disobey God. No wonder the Bible tells us to take our thoughts captive and renew our minds. Sadly, due to the distortion of God the serpent put forward, which Eve bit into, dysfunction came into the world. In "mankind's" relationship with God this distortion leads to distance with God. Yet God does not want that distance to be there, and He has acted in many ways to close that distance. Yet if we are to cooperate in closing that gap - which is a part of undoing the effects of sin - we must cut through the distortion to reality.
God's grace is so often misunderstood. Are we entitled to it? Do we earn it? Are we unworthy of it? Should anyone be denied God's grace? This beloved parable of the 'Prodigal Son' answers these questions.

Jesus as Deliverer
Words matter. In fact, words matter so much that the Bible shows us God spoke all of creation into existence. Of course there are people who doubt this reality...and they use words to prove their point...and I rest my case that words matter. Yet more important than words is our perception of God. Simply stated, a distorted view of God leads to dysfunction. This is why it is vital to understand God as the Bible (not culture, or another person, or anything else) portrays Him. An amazing way The Church can help people get a more accurate picture of God is by sharing our stories. Many people cannot relate to God for one valid reason or another...but people can relate to a friend they know. And when the friend of a person far from God shares their story...amazing things can happen.
