The Pursuit of Happiness
Selected Scriptures Yesterday, July 4, was one of the biggest holiday celebrations of the year in the United States. We are truly blessed to have been born into this country. The Declaration of Independence, crafted in 1776, acknowledges that our fundamental rights are granted to us by our creator, God. Unfortunately, most Americans live according to the last line of the preamble of the Declaration - "in the pursuit of happiness." All too often, our creator is left out of consideration in the conduct of our daily lives. Happiness is the number one pursuit of everyone on this planet. We live in a world where everyone is pursuing happiness, but in spit of this, most people we encounter do not seem happy. Our problem has become that our pursuit of happiness is too often done apart from our creator. So, is it wrong to pursue happiness as the ultimate goal of our lives? No - as long as we seek that happiness in God, Who is the Creator of all things and the ultimate source of satisfaction, happiness and joy. There is a God-shaped vacuum in our hearts that only God can fill. We discover this when all of our attempts to satisfy our desires through earthly pleasures are not enough. So, there has to be something else beyond earthly desires. God wants us to find our happiness in Him, therefore, He created us to be satisfied with nothing less than Him. He has a monopoly on us through His sovereignty so that we will seek Him. God created us to be unhappy in the pursuits of life, but to be happy in the pursuit of Him. We are here to honor and glorify our creator - God. As the Westminster Catechism states, the chief end of man is to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever! The pursuit of happiness is found only in a relationship with the Creator. Do you have a relationship with your Creator?

I'll Be Happy When... my Life Circumstances Change
Have you ever told yourself - I'll be happy when such and such circumstances change? I think we all have. But should our happiness be dependent upon our circumstances?
