What do Mothers Teach us About the Heart of God?
What do Mothers Teach us About the Heart of God? Mother’s exemplify the nature of God’s comfort Isaiah 66:13 “As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.” Mother’s live out God’s heart of sacrifice Isaiah 49:15-16 “Can a mother forget her own baby, and not love the child she bore” Even if a mother could forget her child, I will never forget you. Jerusalem, I could never forget you! I have written your name on the palms of my hands.” Mother’s display God’s protective heart Luke 13:34 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to you! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not!” Mother’s reflect the gentle nurturing heart of God 1 Thessalonians 2:7 “As an apostle of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but we were as gentle among you as a mother feeding and caring for her own children.” Mother’s pass on the godly training to be content and secure in God’s presence Psalm 131:1-2 “O Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.”
Dirty Dishes
In Luke chapter 11 Jesus confronts some religious folks about how they appear to be like dishes that have been scrubbed on the outside, but are filthy on the inside. Jesus came to reveal God's heart, what we should look like on the inside, and often we worry about what we appear like on the outside all the while ignoring what our hearts look like. Jesus confronts us the the hard truth that maybe we are a lot like these characters.
Fixing Society, Step Three: The Call to Lead
As God calls and trains Samuel to replace Eli, the leader of the nation of Israel, we see how God calls and trains us to become leaders and influencers in our world today. The key to Samuel’s (and our) successful leadership is (1) to know God personally, and (2) to know his word. As we gain the experiential knowledge of these two things, we will be used to provide leadership in the areas of life and society that need to be healed and restored.
