Sermons About Heart
Hardening of the Hearteries
Hardening of the Hearteries Within every Christian lies two distinct natures, two distinct voices—the flesh and the Spirit. Each time we choose to tune out or reject the voice of the Spirit, scar tissue form on the heart making it even harder to hear next time. The end result is darkness and spiritual blindness. Don't go there. Key Verses: Heb 3:7-13

Exchanging Lies for Truth
The problem with Israel is our own, it is the gap between what we believe in theory and what we believe in practice. I may agree that God is sovereign (theoretical belief), but slip into deep anxiety when I am afraid or out of control (functional disbelief). What it means to grow in grace is to see the gap narrowed between what I confess to be truth and what I functionally believe in the moment. If it’s true that behind every sin is a lie, we are able to find a road out of the rut of despair and the feeling that our emotions and actions are inevitable. Nehemiah is helping us to see the path of hope in hopelessness, joy in the midst of suffering, and courage to fight our shame and disbelief.

Trusting God With Our Troubled Hearts
We don’t use this word “troubled” a lot today except in particularly negative contexts. We may say that a person is “troubled”, implying they are a tortured soul to be pitied. But if the truth be told, we all can be troubled. Internal conflict takes its toll while inflating our hearts with fear. We unknowingly rent out areas of our heart to anxiety, depression, panic, and a host of other disorders that yield disastrous returns in our lives. Jesus says, “All you who are burdened and are carrying heavy loads come to me and I will give you rest ".
