Sermons About Heaven
Matthew 13:47-52 - A Parable on Fishing
What is the Kingdom of Heaven like? Christ uses fishing terms to describe the Kingdom of Heaven. The gospel is like a fishing net. When we spread the gospel, we are like fishers of men. As those who have been caught by the gospel message, what kind of fish are you?

The Wound of Abandonment
On the cross, Jesus suffered the wound of abandonment so that we would never have to.

Famous Last Words on Heaven
The Space Shuttle discovery just returned to earth after a month in orbit. That’s a long time up in the heavens, and a long way from home. Is heaven like an extended tour on the space shuttle? Is heaven one long vacation from this world, or does God have something else in mind? Looking beyond the Last Day, John has a revelation about the heavenly city, and 7 qualities that will define it. In this message we consider the destination, the population, the foundation, the dimensions, the conservation, and the illumination of the heavenly city. John ends this chapter with an invitation to the heavenly city that is extended to all nations.

The Superior Greatness of Jesus Christ (Matthew 3:11-12)
We have created a Jesus that is far to tame, a far cry from the Lord who is Creator and Judge of all men presented to us on the pages of Scripture. No wonder we and the world have so little fear of Him that we make Him into Someone far less glorious, frightening, and holy than He truly is. Jesus Christ is Lord of all and the Head of the church; He is her source and life; her hope; her single testimony. And when the fear and worship of Jesus Christ, as He is revealed in His word, is lost the church longer the “salt and light” of the world and the influence she was meant to be Matthew is now finishing his summary account of the preaching ministry of John the Baptist. And beginning in verse 11 Matthew is making the transition from John the Baptist to the Person and ministry of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. John is making the transition from his ministry to the Messiah by showing that in every way Jesus in His Person and ministry is far superior in greatness to him. This is the heart of a true servant. And the point is to make clear that Jesus Christ alone is to be the center piece of our worship.

Around the Throne
Spring does in some ways give us hope. Today as we look into Revelation 7 we will see a vision of real, true hope. Last week Pastor Mark unpacked Revelation 6 and the beginning of chapter 8. Those chapters speak of death, war, famine - like being stuck on hold watching only negative stories on the evening news. Our cry today is the same as when Revelation was written: "How long Lord? Who can stand it?" It leaves us feeling like all hope has been yanked out by the roots. In Revelation 7 we see a completely different picture. Right in the middle of this crazy mess, everything seems to go calm and we see a vision of a future with no more hunger, no more thirst, no more tears. Wow! Isn't this something we need to share with the neighbours around us? Key Passage: Revelation 7:9-10

What would Jesus say when the TSX drops 500 points?
The launching pad for this Sunday's sermon will be a reminder that this world is fragile and broken, filled with people who do good and others who do bad. From time to time greed and selfishness has the final word and the world aches and groans from the pain inflicted. This is our reality until Christ returns. The good news is that the world is not our "home".

Today you will be with me
There have been many famous people who have uttered memorable words in their final moments of life. Last words say a lot about a person's state of mind and character. Nowhere else is this more true than with Jesus' last words from the Cross. His words during this intense time of suffering captivate those who are willing to look and see their meaning to those there that day, to us in this present time, and for each individual's future. Let's look at this gruesome and glorious day in history, where the Words and Work of Jesus speak loudly of God's love, justice, holiness, mercy and grace.

The Spirit Guarantees our Inheritance
Jesus promises His followers an inheritance that is so precious that it empowers devoted obedience, frees us for love, and strengthens us in suffering. But what is this inheritance, and how can we know it's really there -- and that it will really satisfy us? That's what Paul explains in Ephesians 1:13-14.

Useful?
The 7th church to be addressed in our study, receives the harshest criticism. All the other churches seemed to recognize that they were in a "war-zone" spiritually speaking. The church at Laodicea however, felt that they were doing quite well, and that they didn't need a thing! Rather than living as exiles, waiting for the deliverance of Jesus, they had settled in and were quite comfortable with life in the here-and-now. As such, they were no longer useful to the Master, and He was ready to "spit them out." The Laodicean letter is sobering, because it hits so close to home. I hope and pray that God will call out the "dangerous" spirit of exile among us? How much do we LONG for the kingdom to break in? How much do we pray? Do our songs reflect this longing? Are we anchored to the promises of God? Have we given up? Key Passage: Revelation 3:14-22
