A Strange Hedonism
The American Heritage Dictionary defines "hedonism" as the “pursuit of or devotion to pleasure.†The Jewish historian Josephus called crucifixion “the most pitiable death.†Cicero called it “that cruel and disgusting punishment.†It was a horrific and shameful execution, calculated to maximize the suffering of a criminal. Do crucifixion and hedonism have anything to do with each other? YES!
