The American Heritage Dictionary defines "hedonism" as the â€œpursuit of or devotion to pleasure.â€ The Jewish historian Josephus called crucifixion â€œthe most pitiable death.â€ Cicero called it â€œthat cruel and disgusting punishment.â€ It was a horrific and shameful execution, calculated to maximize the suffering of a criminal. Do crucifixion and hedonism have anything to do with each other? YES!
