Holiness is not Optional 2
A real believer will pursue holiness, a make-believer will continue as a slave of sin without any conviction or discipline. God disciplines every genuine believer. Thus, self-discipline, the choice to pursue biblical holiness, avoids the need for divine chastisement.

Compelling Joy
The earliest Christians were a people of compelling joy. Their joy was rooted in remembrance of what God had accomplished for them in Jesus Christ, and expectation of what He would do in bringing about the renewal of all creation in Christ. The emphasis in the New Testament book, The Acts of the Apostles, is on joy being rooted in our experience of what God is actually doing among us now to heal and restore this broken world.

Isaiah: Restoring the World (Isaiah 6:1-8)
Is the gospel about personal forgiveness of personal sin, or is it about the corporate restoration of the entire cosmos? Christians have lined up on both sides, ready to argue their case, but have failed to see what’s really at stake in this discussion. In this sermon, we will see that our longing for transcendence and our desire for restoration are ultimately met in the same way.

The life of Moses is peppered with one supernatural act after the other. He was God’s man to lead God’s people out of slavery and into freedom. However, because Moses failed to honor God’s holiness and compassion he wasn’t able to enjoy the freedom that God wanted him to enjoy.

The Way of Salvation: Part 3 (Romans 3:25-26)
Jesus is the sacrificial propitiation for our sins. Propitiation is the turning away of another's wrath. In Jesus's propitiating sacrifice, we see demonstrated our sin, God's just wrath against sin, our alienation from God, and the one perfect offering of sufficient worth to remove our guilt. Jesus demonstrates God's perfect justice in bearing the punishment for our sin, and he demonstrates God's perfect love in making a way for us to be reconciled to him in spite of our sin. How good of God!

The Way of Salvation: Part 1 (Romans 3:21-22)
This passage serves as a key turning point in Paul's letter to the Romans. Until now he has been demonstrating our sinfulness before God, the fact that we have nothing to commend ourselves to God, and that we cannot possibly do anything to earn God's favor. Now Paul shifts to show how we can receive God's favor and mercy -- through faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus becomes not simply our advocate, but he becomes our substitute, taking upon himself our sins and punishment and giving us his righteousness -- a righteousness that comes only through him. The faith that receives this gift of righteousness is a faith that knows the gospel, believes the gospel, and entrusts ourselves to Christ.

Nehemiah 13.1-9: Cleaning House
Things are going well in Jerusalem. The Jews have just dedicated themselves and the wall to the Lord. Their leader, Nehemiah returns to Persia and things start to unravel. Upon Nehemiah's return to the city he finds the people forgetting where they had come from and where God had brought them. They start turning to the ways of their fathers who they had longed to not be like because of their iniquities. Nehemiah returns and cleans house. We all are need of cleansing. God has called us to purity. So, how is the house of God? The house of God is you if you know Jesus. Is there some cleansing needed?

Cleaning House
Believers need to keep their lives and the church holy to God. There are many lessons to be learned from the story about Jesus cleaning house at the Temple. If we consider that God replaced the Temple with a new one in the New Testament, we get a different perspective on cleaning house today. We learn that Jesus always wants to keep God's Temple clean, even in our times.

Analyzing Authenticity (Romans 2:17-29)
Paul challenges his readers not to base our confidence before God in our religious pedigree, family history, bible knowledge, Christian education, or any other experience or practice. There are many good things we ought to pursue, but there is a danger in craving man's approval rather than God's, and none of these things will secure our standing before God. Our only hope is the gospel, pleading for mercy rather than justice, and trusting in Christ's dying for sinners. Once we have trusted, we are freed to do good works rightly -- not so that we can be saved, but out of love and gratitude, as an overflow of our changed hearts. The essence of a true Christian is a changed heart.

Holiness is not optional, but is required for salvation. Because of a real believers position in heaven as holy, he or she should persue holiness on earth in love and grattitude for salvation. Holiness is the mark of a real Christian.

If anyone was countercultural it was Jesus. Those who worship Jesus are called to follow him by also living countercultural lives -- both in how they live and why they live how they live. It's no secret, though, that oftentimes Christians are indestinguishable from their neighbors. Why? How are Christians to live differently? Why are they to live differently? Listen in as we discuss Jesus' call to countercultural living.

High Definition Living
High Definition Living? The tension of Holiness and Freedom 1 Corinthians 8 An opinion is a position you hold, with varying degrees of intensity that is merely voicing a preference you may have. A conviction it hat which is roted in your conscience. “ Ravi Zacharias It is not unusual that we regard our opinions with a greater degree of intensity than we do our conscience. Consequently, we may be careful what we believe, yet are noticeably more casual in how we live. 1. Enduring the scrutiny ● The very discussion of personal holiness implies personal scrutiny. ● 1 Peter 1:17 ● 1 Corinthians 3:1-17 Rick Joyner – “Walking in the light is more than knowing and obeying certain truths. It is being true and being free from the compulsion to hide.” 2. The relief that freedom brings. ● The basic ingredient of freedom in Christ is our call, and desire to love as we were created to love. ● Romans 13:8, Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another ● Luke 15, The Prodigal, ‘When he was yet a long way off…” ● We are free now to love and pursue God and others. No longer driven to serve ourselves. 3. The problem of weakness in ourselves and others. ● 1 Corinthians 8 ● Understanding the difference between disagreeing with someone who thinks and believes differently from you vs. offending a weaker Christian. ● It is also important that we recognize our weak areas and guard ourselves. The pursuit of Holiness is ultimately a pursuit of God, not issues or situations

Who Gets to Say What Sin Is?
Who Gets to Say What Sin Is? The second message in our series: How Then Shall We Live? A focus on holy living in a complicated world God Does! New Testament word for sin: Hamartia – used 217 times as “missing the mark” Missing the whole point of one’s life and purpose for why I am here. The unpardonable sin (Mark 3:28,29) I Do! Blessed is the person who does not condemn himself by what he approves. Romans 14:22 If you believe it is wrong to drink and eat certain foods, then for you it is wrong. Romans 14:14 Whatever is not of faith is sin. Romans 14:23 My Christ following friend does! Decide to live in such a way that you will not put an obstacle in another Christ follower’s path. Romans 14:23 If a Christ follower is distressed by what you eat or drink, you are not acting in love if you do it. Romans 14:15 Don’t eat meat or drink wine or do anything else if it might cause another Christ follower to stumble. Romans 14:21 We must be considerate of the doubts and fears of those who think these things are wrong. Romans 15:1
