Sermons About Holy-spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit
Do we really need the Holy Spirit? Couldn’t we get along just fine in the Christian faith without this third rather vague member of the Trinity? Indeed, some Christians have sometimes been accused of making too little of the Holy Spirit as others have been over making too much of him. A friend of mine said we could get into danger if our Christianity became Spiritianity. Let’s be careful here with the word balance. The balance we need is not 1/3 of each person of the Trinity but the full 100% the Bible gives to each. In a sense the Holy Spirit does everything the other members do; he’s involved in creation; he’s involved in redemption, gives new life. The Father is in heaven holding the world together; the Lord Jesus, whose earthly work is finished, is with him. As the Father sent the Son, the Son has now sent the Holy Spirit. He is the one who is here with us. And what is he doing? He’s always pointing us to Jesus and applying Jesus' work of salvation.

9-27-09 Galatians 3:8-13
(Galatians 3:8 KJV) And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed. (Galatians 3:9 KJV) So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. (Galatians 3:10 KJV) For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. (Galatians 3:11 KJV) But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. (Galatians 3:12 KJV) And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. (Galatians 3:13 KJV) Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

Mission Is...
Our God is a missional God. How does the Gospel motivate community missionwards? The Father sends the Son, the Son sends the Spirit, and the Spirit fills the church and sends it on mission and power into the world. To be on mission is simply to be like our God. It’s to understand His redemptive plan. It’s to join in His story. It’s to see our identity as it truly is.

Mission to Ephesus: The Critique of All Temples
Acts 19.26 “he says man-made gods are no gods at all...There is danger...that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be discredited.” Throughout history there has been a long succession of temple building. Archaeologists have discovered the ruins of many. Hollywood enjoys making adventure movies about some of them. As we follow Paul in his third missionary journey, he now arrives in Ephesus - a city dominated by the goddess Artemis and her influential temple. When Paul preached Jesus, he challenged the entire religious enterprise and people were personally affronted and angry. What we forget is that it is not just the ancient peoples who build temples - we do, too. Today in the Word we will consider how the gospel actually challenges all temples and how the powers of hell try to divert us from discovering freedom and life in the one true God.

Fulfillment
Fulfillment. What does it mean to be fulfilled? What does it mean to experience the abundant life, a life that is full and overflowing that is promised by Jesus? Do you ever feel empty and powerless? Do you dream of living a life of fulfillment, a life filled with passion and purpose? In the apostle John’s first letter, he told his hearers that they could know and rely on God to give them His Spirit and His love to empower their lives to fulfill His purpose for them — that they would be like Him. We can know and rely on God’s Spirit and love to empower us to fulfill His purpose.
