Mary demonstrated her love and devotion to Christ by pouring one year's wages worth of perfume on His head. In the same way we should give lavishly and boldly of the time, talents, and resources that God has given us as outpourings of our love for Jesus.

John 11:1-51 - Shepherded Into Suffering
Just as He loved Mary, Martha and Lazarus, Jesus loves us very much, so he will lead us into and through times of suffering so that we can learn to better depend on Him in faith and see His glory as He provides for us. Knowing this, we shouldn't shrink back from suffering but instead reach for Him no matter what the cost.

Jesus is the Good Shepherd and His sheep are secure in Him. If we believe that Jesus is God who came to die for our sins and we follow Him we can rest assured that we are one of His sheep and He holds us securely in His hands. Knowing this should give us confidence and boldness to proclaim the Gospel.

We care greatly about things that are ours, and we are less concerned about the things that belong to others. Jesus is not a hired hand who is supposed to look after the belongings of another. He knows His people by name, they belong to him, and He loves them and lays down His life for them.

Jesus worked a miracle by not only giving sight to a man born blind but also enabling him to see Christ as the Messiah and believe in Him. The Pharisees were blinded by their misguided self-righteous rulekeeping and couldn't see what was really valuable to God.

Many people throughout history have claimed that they speak on God's behalf. Only Jesus Christ is fully qualified to do so because He was sent from heaven by God, lived a life without sin, always spoke what He heard from God for the sake of God's glory, and only Christ is the eternal God come to earth.

Jesus went to a celebration to tell the people that He was the Messiah and the fulfillment of their celebration. The authorities tried to arrest Jesus because they were too stubborn to believe in Him as they were hung up on their man-made rules and were unwilling to admit to their own sinfulness and need for forgiveness.

Jesus' brothers wanted Him to go up to the feast to show off His powers and become popular. Jesus understood that popularity could be a fickle and shameful thing, and He went up in God's time to speak God's words. We should likewise use any attention that we garner not to bolster our own image but to share the Gospel regardless of public opinion.

Jesus confronted the people who were following Him for selfish reasons about the need for faith. He didn't shirk from teaching hard truths because He had faith in God's power to draw people to faith in Him, and we are to share the truth of His Word with boldness in His example.

Jesus demonstrated His power as the Messiah by healing a lame man who had been crippled for thirty-eight years, but the man and the religious authorities were too wrapped up in following their unnecessary human rules that they completely missed the sign that the One they had read about and been waiting for had come.
