Unless The Lord Builds The House
Sunday sermon by Eddie Mayes - September 30, 2012
OUR HOUSE - *we love. *we connect.
Starting off a new series. Every healthy house has house rules. House rules let you know what will fly, and what doesn't. They let you know what to expect, and they give you insight into the hearts of the people in the home. House Rules tell you what matter. When you live by God's House Rules, you create an environment where God's Spirit can move freely, bringing healing and growth to the people around you, and yourself! Today as we introduce the series. we roll out the first two House Rules. We hope you'll embrace these rules in your own homes, as we'll be launching them to a DEEPER level right here in our faith community. As we live with these in mind, they'll become more than just House Rules... They'll define WHO WE ARE, and WHAT WE DO.
New City: Relocation & Renewing Our City (Nehemiah 11)
It seems these days that magazines are falling all over themselves rushing to say how great Austin is. Best city to live in for young people, best city for jobs, best city for the next decade and the accolades go on. Many of us moved to Austin because we love the city and how awesome it is. But at some point we have to ask, "Do I love the city for what I can take from it? Do I love to consume the city? Or do I love this city, it's good parts and it's hard parts?" What would we do if a F4 tornado ripped through Austin and destroyed it from MoPac to I35 and from Oltorf to 51st Street. Would you stay and be part of rebuilding? Or would you bail? Move to the next best city on the list? Acts 17:26-27 tells us that God determines the boundaries and the times of where and when we live. We live in Austin because God has ordained it. In Nehemiah 11 we see different groups of people moving into the city to continue renewing it. Some already lived there and sought it's renewal, others volunteered to move there and still others moved there by the providence of God. In this text we see God's call for us to relocate, either to move somewhere else, or just to move off the couch and meet a neighbor.
Love One Another: Spur One Another On
Who are the people in your life that have spurred you on? What are the do's and don'ts of spurring others on.
