Daniel 4:1-37
Nebuchadnezzar appears to believe that he is magnanimous and beneficient, but this is far from the truth. In the book of Habakkuk we find out how God has raised up the Babylonians as a punishment for His wayward people. Nebuchadnezzar doesn't recognise that God has power and authority over all the kingdoms of the Earth, including Nebuchadnezzar's. How comforting it is to realise that no corrupt government escapes God's authority. We see from Daniel that in bad times, good men can find themselves caugt up in bad situations. They have to remain faithful to the truth and just do what they can, as Daniel does. This dream is a judgement on Nubuchadnezzar's hubris - his unjustified self-egrandisment. Daniel's interpretation brings unwelcome news; that Nebuchadnezzar is to be humbled by God. Twelve months later Nebuchadnezzr revels in his own glory - showing that he hasn't paid attention; he really doesn't appreciate how powerful God is and is about to find out! God's total power is available to us through Christ's sacrifice, but only for to increase God's reputation, not for our own glorification; for God strikes down the vainglorious and raises up the humble.

All About Me
Continuing in the series -- a problem we all run into that keeps us from having God as the driving force in our life is price. The problem with pride is that it distances me from God as I don't spend time with God, don't serve God and do not give God the credit He deserves. Pride also distances me from others. To fix this problem we need to clothe ourselves in humility. How? We need to spend daily time with God; we need to serve God and others and we need to be thankful to God.

Love is Humble
Continuing today in our study of love and 1 Corinthians 13, Tony shares about the practice of humility, which is the opposite of envy, boasting, and pride. Humility is defined by a radical centeredness on Christ. Tony reminds us while walking through 1 Corinthians that one man plants, and another waters, but only God causes growth.

Humility - The Mark of God's Child (Psalm 119:169-176
It is fitting that the we should end finding the psalmist in prayer for that is precisely how we have learned from him throughout most of the 176 vv. This is because he is a man who is living out his relationship to God. Relationship is just that, it is interaction, it is living life with God in a hostile world - talking to Him; trusting Him; complaining to Him; rejoicing in Him; seeking His favor. So here he is, once again. pouring out his heart to God in prayer and we, the readers, are standing in a dark corner of his inner room, hidden by the shadows of time, and listening to his Holy Spirit inspired expressions of faith. And we see and hear a man who has been humbled before God. There is not hint of self-righteousness, no shadow of self-satisfaction, nor shimmer of pride as he approaches God with a real sense of dependence and trust. And this is surely one of the truest marks of grace in a redeemed heart. The psalmist prayer manifest humility and genuine dependence on God in all things. 4 Expressions of dependence by one who has been humbled before God. His need for understanding His need of God’s grace to worship rightly His need for God’s Salvation His need for God’s preserving grace

When I Get Recognition!
When will I be happy with others? When I get recognition! But we are never satisfied. Only the gospel can make us happy with others! In the gospel we find that God values us, delights in us, and gives us glory beyond our wildest imagination. The gospel makes us so happy that we are free to humble ourselves and follow Jesus by serving others, which makes us even happier!
