True Righteousness & Sexual Purity (Matthew 5:27-30)
The Lord gives a 2nd anti-thesis and counters the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees with the the true righteousness of the kingdom and to which the Law pointed. Namely, that God is not concerned with external but with the inner reality of a transformed nature; a new heart that hungers and thirst for righteousness, and particular, as the Lord will address this morning, in the area of sexual purity. As with the previous section the Lord will give a clear statement followed by 2 examples, showing that: True righteousness identifies sexual sin in the heart and seeks to turn from it at all cost. From the Lord’s statement we will note: 2 necessary elements to winning the battle of sexual purity: (1) the need to identify the sin and (2) the need to pursue sanctification.

The Church of Thyratira: Revelation 2:18-28
In America, most of us have not been physically threatened for our faith. However, like the church at Thyratira, I would argue that most of our greatest temptations to compromise stem from either economic or social pressures. The church today is radically tempted to compromise by valuing the same things that the culture around us values. We serve a God who calls us to consider everything rubbish in order that we might gain Christ and be found in him. We cannot cling to the values of this world and still hold fast to the righteousness of our savior. Jesus offers us himself. Jesus calls us live lives of repentance, constantly letting go of our sin and clinging to his blood, shed on the cross for our sin, to forgive us and give us his perfect righteousness.

Pornography
Lust, like other temptations, entices us deeper and deeper until it creates a kind of culture of sin within our lives. Yet, God not only calls us to purity, but God also empowers us by his grace to live in freedom from binding habits.

The Heresy of the Well-Intended
Judges 17 illustrates God's sovereign hand in the midst of gross immorality. The setting is some 30 to 40 years after the Israelites' entrance to the promised land - a time when "every man did right in his own eyes." The account of Ephram and Micah demonstrates what happens when you overlook sin and ignore God. The steps to gross immorality depend on what you think about God. What we find is that without God, we have no standards and the decay of standards among people often starts with small reductions of God and small elevations of man. But the Bible teaches us that all peoples of the world need a Godly shepherd, and adhering to the truths of God's word is paramount so that we may not be cast unto immorality.
