Sermons About Incarnation
The Incarnation
From John 1:14 I want to give you these four adverbs that will help us understand and defend the doctrine of the incarnation. 1. When the Word became flesh the two natures of Christ were united truly. 2. When the Word became flesh the two natures of Christ were united perfectly. 3. When the Word became flesh the two natures of Christ were united undividedly. 4. When the Word became flesh the two natures of Christ were united unmixedly.

Jesus in Jeans
In Wm. Paul Young's novel, The Shack, Mack first sees Jesus "wearing jeans covered in wood dust and a plaid shirt, sleeves rolled above the elbows, revealing well muscled forearms. His features were pleasant enough, but he was not particularly handsome....Mack knew instantly that he liked him." What is it about Jesus Christ that drew people to him then, and that draw people to him today? The gospels suggest that he was great company, that he made God real, and that his life was profoundly human.

LIVING LIFE TO THE FULLEST: THRU OUR FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST (1 John 1:1-4 * Message #1/14) 10-04-09
NOTE: To receive these Sermon notes below in an outline form (which is easier to read), please email your request to Pastor Marcus Johnson (efcamarcus@sbcglobal.net). INTRODUCTION TO 1ST JOHN (& the Letters of John): 1) AUTHOR: THE APOSTLE JOHN (who wrote the Gospel of John, 2nd & 3rd John, & Revelation). Early church sources acknowledge John’s authorship, as does internal testimony (comparing 1st John to the Gospel of John, etc). 2) DATE AND RECIPIENTS: A.D. 70-90?; --> To a Congregation near Ephesus? (northwest of Israel); --> A Church suffering Turmoil within (This congregation is possibly approaching its last hour: Some within the congregation were undermining John’s theology (i.e. his Gospel), living in sin & spiritual pride, not loving each other, and there was a group that had already left the church). 3) PURPOSE FOR WRITING: FOR FELLOWSHIP & JOY (that the believers would walk in Christ-centered fellowship and the joy that comes with it). At the same time, John is responding to the various problems listed above. --> Fellowship: “John did not want a church that was orthodox [believing right] but unloving, any more than he wanted a church that misrepresented Jesus Christ. He wanted both –sound doctrine and vibrant community – and he refused to settle for less.” (Gary M. Burge, "Letters of John"). --> Joy: “He has the heart of a pastor which cannot be completely happy so long as some of those for whom he feels responsible are not experiencing the full blessings of the gospel” (I. Howard Marshall, "The Epistles of John"). 4) MAJOR THEMES IN JOHN’S LETTERS (see the Theme at the top of the page): --> Knowing God thru the Person of Christ (God is light and God is love); --> Experiencing the Joy-filled Fellowship of Christ (with the Father, the Son, and each other); --> Living in the Victory of Christ (Overcoming sin, the world, and the devil); --> Abiding by Faith in Christ (by Practicing righteousness, Loving each other, Turning from sin, thru the Testimony of the Spirit, by Believing Jesus is God's Son); --> Loving One Another in Christ (as God has loved us, by sharing what we have and by laying down our lives for each other); --> Walking in the Truth of Christ (by Knowing Jesus Christ, thru the Teaching of the Holy Spirit, thru Obedience to God's Word, by Standing against false teachers, and by Supporting ministers of the Gospel). KNOWING GOD REVEALED THRU THE PERSON OF JESUS CHRIST (vs1-2). --> Believe in Jesus Christ: (as the Word of Life/the Eternal Life); --> Believe in the Incarnation: (God the Son becomes a Man); --> Believe in the historical Jesus: (this is Foundational to our Christian Faith); --> Believe in the Apostolic Witness: (recognize the Importance of Eye-witness Testimony). TAKING JOHN’S WORD TO HEART (vs3-4) John’s Gospel-driven Purpose: --> Living Christ-centered Fellowship; --> John’s Pastoral-driven Goal: Experiencing Christ-centered Joy.

The Glory Struggle
1In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. 8And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. 10And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." 13And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!" 15When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us." 16And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. 21And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
