Sermons About Independence
Our Worth in God's Eyes
Why do we run away form the God of love? Our youth places blinders on our eyes, our pride serves as a motivator and our desire for independence can set us on the run. The results of running away: distance in the relationship, we end up running on empty, confusion and death. To have a coming home party we must have a repentent heart then God will receive us with open arms.

A Different Kind of Freedom
This weekend marks the annual celebration of our nation's independence, and it begs the question what does it mean to be free. In John 8 Jesus teaches about true freedom, not from taxation or governing bodies or law, but from sin and its consequences. In His typical topsy-turvy fasion, Jesus lets us know that to be free, we must be obedient to His teaching.

Finding Freedom
Who is truly free? The three Hebrew men in Daniel 3 were slaves by all definitions, but these slaves were far freer than their master. This tells us that freedom is something more than mere political independence.

Washington's Spymaster
The role of espionage was crucial during the War for Independence. Spying was made even more irresistible with both sides speaking the same language. When spy Nathan Hale was captured and hung by the British, George Washington was highly motivated to centralize intelligence operations. Learning to be Dependent
Human choices and desires for independence have destroyed God's intentions, beginning in the garden. Satan suggests that it's not fair for God to keep all the "godness" to himself. God on the other hand knew that this is exactly what must happen for life to be full and real.

In Dependence
We love our independence. It means control and power for us. Who doesn't like having control and being in power? Yet the scriptures teach us that while Jesus was the most powerful person to ever walk the earth, he did not revel in his power or pursue it. In fact, He lowered Himself from the glory and power he shared with the Father and came to earth as a servant. He simply submitted himself to God the Father in loving obedience to Him. In that, He modeled for us what life in the Kingdom of God is to be like. Humble, submitted, loving and obedient to God. From this relationship, God can demonstrate His power, as we live in dependence on Him.
