Sermons About Intolerance
Is the Christian Faith Homophobic
One of the first things you discover when you study what the Bible says about homosexuality is that the Bible doesn't focus much on the idea of inward orientation or sexual preference. Its focus is primarily on what people actually do. It's about homosexual practice not preference. Violence, aggression, depression promiscuity, infidelity, all of these can be experienced as predispositions that pull us away from obedience to God, but none of them exempt us from responsibility for our actions. We should not minimize the struggles of people with persistent homosexual desires and attractions. But God sees everything, and understands all the factors that influence our behaviors. He offers help and hope. The church needs to reflect that.

Is the Christian Faith Oppressive to Women?
Often, the challenge of addressing the charge that the Christian faith is oppressive to women is based on the idea that “equality” must be seen as being “identical” – any differences are viewed therefore as evidence of inequality. But the scriptures present a view of equality that is unique among other competing perspectives, and it is that women are both absolutely equal to and uniquely complementary with men.

Is Christianity Narrow and Intolerant?
One of the things that is distinctive to the Christian movement, seen in the life of Jesus and in the writings of the New Testament, is that it brings both people who are religiously upright and people who have been scandalously sinful, violent, and promiscuous together in an attitude of love, unity, and acceptance. This however has always been a problem in the church. In one example we even find Paul in his letter to the Romans encouraging them to stop judging each other and accept those whose faith is weak without passing judgment on disputable matters because God has accepted him.

How Can Christianity Claim To Be The Truth For Everyone?
One popular objection to the Christian faith today is it's exclusive claims to ultimate truths and morality. How can Christianity claim to be the truth for everyone? Michel Foucault warned us to be suspicious of such claims. And yet so does Jesus when talking about the religious leaders of his day, whose heart was not to shepherd the people but to exercise power over them. Jesus however not only claimed to be the good shepherd but proved it by laying down his life for his people.
