Sermons About Jesus-birth
Advent: Joy 2008
John 15:11: “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.†Hebrews 12:1-2: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.†John 17:13: “But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.†We can fight for joy as we trust in Jesus and His gospel. We fight because Jesus fought for us. We have joy because Jesus is filled with joy for His Father.

When God Messes With Our Plans
Joesph and Mary never planned on what God had in store for them and their marriage. This sermon looks at the miraculous conecption of Jesus Christ and how God changed Mary and Joseph's plans for the good of all mankind. We look at examples positive and negative that have happened in our lives and the lives of others that God uses to change our plans to work for His glory and honor. We learn that God doesn't ask nor need our permission to change our plans. We also learn that serving the Lord is not easy no matter what these TV prosperity gospel preachers say to sell their books. Finally we learn how, God does bless those that obey His will and that all things work to the good for those called according to His purpose.

The Back Story
The Back Story of The Story provides context and background information regarding the main character. In this study of Luke 2 and the events surrounding the birth of Jesus, we see the Shepherds who receive a visitation by angel and the heavenly host announcing the birth of Jesus, Savior, Messiah, and Lord. The sign they were given was that they would find a baby wrapped in cloths, laying in a manger. But this was no ordinary manger. According to tradition, the manger was actually a feeding trough that was hewn out of rock. And the stable was actually a cave. This sign where the shepherds would find the newborn baby Jesus was secluded, private, and a foreshadowing of the purpose Jesus was born. Because some 30-plus years later, Jesus would again be wrapped in cloths and laid in a cave. That cave was his tomb. And the death that He died would be to take away the sins of the world.
