Obstacles to Jesus
Christians often emphacize doing things, rather than becoming things. Focusing on outward actions wrongly takes precedence over inward transformation. This mindset becomes an obstacle to Jesus, because we falsely associate salvation and a relationship with Jesus with our own sense of "goodness". In turn, this is communicated to our neighbors, our friends, and the rest of the world by both our actions and words. Thankfully, the Gospel stands in complete opposition to this obstacle and tears down the walls we often build. Join us as we re-learn the gospel of grace, which we've been called to live and share.

Apologetic Discourse 1
From our text this morning, Hebrews 7:11-28, the writer answers five objections the Jews would have had concerning Jesus Christ as the Great High Priest. 1. He is not descended from Aaron. 2. Moses said nothing about a priest coming from the line of Judah. 3. We have a traceable line of priests and can prove their descent. 4. We have daily sacrifices that our priests perform. 5. We have the Law which established the priesthood.

The Surprising Way God Helps You Grow
True Christianity is not a program for self-improvement but a living relationship with Christ in which his life comes into you and changes you. Our core responsibility as Christians is to cultivate the relationship with Christ that will make us fruitful in life. In this passage of Scripture, John 15, Jesus is using the image of a grapevine to teach us about fruitful spiritual growth. Verse 5 gives us the real heart of the passage when Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Real Life & Real Change in the Real World
What does Jesus mean here when he talks about fruit and fruitfulness in life? When the Bible talks about fruit it is talking about deep positive changes in your life. In some places it also suggests the idea of a deep and positive influence on others for Christ. The best way to see this is to look at another passage, Galatians 5:22-23, which says; But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. In the vine and the branches Jesus gives us an image to tell us how those kinds of changes can come about in our lives.

What's God Got to Do With My Money part 1
What's God got to do with my money? This is a good question. One that should be asked. And one that should be answered. But it cannot be answered by the ideas of the culture or by the ideas of the church. It must be answered by the gospel of Jesus Christ. So listen in as we learn to look at money through the lens of the gospel.

Choosing a Kingdom
Jesus is a brilliant teacher. But he is not content with simply teaching. He exposes truth and life as they are and then calls his audience to make a decision. This is precisely what Jesus does as he concludes his famous Sermon on the Mount. Listen in as Jesus invites us to choose his Kingdom over the kingdoms of this world.

Kingdom Power
None of us likes to be asked to do the impossible. It makes us feel powerless. But sometimes it seems that this is exactly what Jesus is asking of us -- the impossible. But in the Sermon on the Mount Jesus not only demands righteousness, he also promises the power to live in it. Listen in as we explore Jesus' teaching on this Kingdom Power and discover together how to obtain it.

I Have Had Enough
In the past Elijah was strong because he kept his eyes on God and trusted in God. But in his situation in chapter 19 it seems as if he is not looking at God. He sees the problems, the circumstances, the threats and dangers. It is as if God gets very small in his sight and the people and problems get very big and it overwhelms him. What this teaches us is that no matter how much you know or how well you've handled problems in the past you sometimes have to fight to keep your eyes on God in the present.

Prayer - Knocking on Heaven's Door
Prayer is powerful when in your prayers you truly pray like a servant of God. James says when you look at Elijah you are seeing an example of how you should pray. Look at what James says again. James 5:16-18 ... The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. 17 Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.

The Lord - He Is God
A lot of things in life require a commitment. You have to come to the point where you see the truth and live in light of it. What makes the story of Elijah in 1 Kings 18 so relevant for us today is the fact that the underlying issues for people then are the same for us today. God through Elijah is addressing the people's double-mindedness which kept them from committing to God. Today we are in danger of the same thing.

God Loves Sex and So Should You
Everyone is talking about sex. Everyone except, in many cases, the Church. This is odd since God created sex and God loves sex. The Church should love sex too. If anyone should be talking about sex it should be those who worship the God who created it. But it is not enough to simply talk about sex, we must talk about it in light of the Gospel. Whether single or married we must all re-learn sex in light of the Gospel. Listen in as we explore a Biblical Theology of sex and discuss how we can properly express our sexuality for God's glory.

The Kingdom, Relationships, and Anger
Anger is a powerful emotion. It is a common emotion. It is a God-given emotion. Nevertheless is can be destructive to relationships, and relationships are central to the message of Scripture. They are the primary thing destroyed in the fall of man and the primary thing restored in the Kingdom of God. Jesus says that this kingdom has arrived in his own person and ministry and that through him human beings can be restored to a proper relationsip with God, humanity, and creation at large. As he explains in the Sermon on the Mount, this has serious implications for our understanding of anger. Listen in as we explore this together.

The Kingdom Fulfilled
In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus claims that he is the fulfillment of all of Sacred Scripture. This, of course, is a grand claim with tremendous implications for Jewish, Christian, and agnostic alike. How does it shape our understanding of Jesus? Of the Old Testament? Of the relationship between faith and works? Listen in as we find answers to these questions in Jesus' famous Sermon on the Mount.

The Kingdom Influence
"You are the salt of the earth..." "You are the light of the world..." These famous words of Jesus paint a brilliant and shocking word picture of the Church. That picture is enhanced when these metaphors are examined within their historical and cultural context. Freedom to Carry Burdens
With this sermon we conclude our study of Paul's letter to the Galatians. Paul spent the first 5 chapters building his case -- that in Christ alone, by grace alone, through faith alone we are freed from our burdens and restraints. In the closing chapter, though, Paul tells us that we are freed for a purpose and that as liberated people we ought to freely replace our old burdens with new ones. But these burdens are not the product of enslavement. They are the product of genuine liberation. Listen in as we discover what burdens we have been freed to carry.

Freedom to Walk in the Spirit
If we are not bound by the Law how do we know whether or not we are pleasing God? If we are not slaves to religious rules how do we judge whether we are spiritually mature or immature? If our guide is not a "timeless formula" how do we know when we are in God's will? The author of Galatians argues that the answer is not found in the Law or in the flesh but in the Spirit and in love. Specifically, we can gauge our spiritual health by looking at how we function in community. Listen in as we wrestle with the differences between a community of the flesh and a community of the Spirit.

Freedom to Be Thankful
Technology changes, culture changes, theory changes -- but human nature remains the same. In the ancient historical account of Abraham and his family we see a reflection of ourselves. Though God had made a promise that could only be fulfilled by divine power, Abraham chose to take matters into his own hands and rely on human effort and power to do God's will. How often are we tempted to do the same thing? Listen as we allow the Apostle Paul to show us what we can learn from the story of Abraham.<
